Pairing modern technology with 100% sheep's wool for a unique, soft, durable line of jewelry.
UPDATE: STRETCH GOALS (!)
1. Print look books (high-end photos that showcase the jewelry) for sending to retail stores. And getting some future retail accounts!
2. A new collection! One that involves screen printing techniques on the felt. I will be working with a company in the US to make this happen.
tac·tile/ˈtaktl/ Adjective:
1. Of or connected with the sense of touch.
2. Perceptible by touch or apparently so; tangible: "an almost tactile memory".
THE GOAL
To fabricate a run of 800+ pieces of jewelry and therefore create samples for retail stores. What does this mean specifically?
- ordering linear yards of felt
- having the funds to pay up front for production
- ordering 14k gold hardware from a US company
- creating 800 pieces allows me to sell my line in small, unique boutique stores by having stock for future orders
If I meet more than my Kickstarter goal, I plan on using the money for:
- creating retail look books (high-end photos of the jewelry)
- creating retail sample packages
- a future new collection
THE STORY
I have always loved felt (sheep's wool). It started when I was baby. My parent's laid me on the skin of lamb's wool (wow, if that doesn't sound hippie, I don't know what is!) and I loved it! It was one of my earliest memories. Fast forward a couple years, uh, decades, and I was introduced to a laser cutter at college. I always wanted to do something with the two, but it wasn't until I graduated that I was able to take it to the next level. I am intrigued by the idea of combining old with new. Felt is one of the oldest textiles in the world and by pairing it with modern technology explores the relationship further, pushing the limits. I use felt from Germany, with eco-friendly dyes.
All the designs are original and often influenced from nature, culture, and even my dreams. I carry a sketchbook around with me and often jot down ideas or quick sketches. From there the designs are translated into Illustrator. Once in Illustrator each idea is prototyped (using the spectacular TechShop Epilog Mini Helix) making sure it meets minimum requirements and is what I envisioned. I then talk to a lot of people about it, gather ideas, what works, what doesn't and forge on ahead. It has been a journey of sheer joy, frustration, late nights and wonder - and I love every minute (well, almost every minute) of it!
THE FUTURE
To boldly go where no felt has gone before. I plan to combine felt with other mediums that will compliment and transform the wool in new ways. I am starting to actively pursue other technologies, using different techniques, and other potential materials incorporated with the felt. In other words, the sky is the limit! I plan on expanding the line in the near future.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
Every project has challenges, and if we're being honest, isn't that part of what makes it fun and exciting? I would like to think so! One of the biggest challenges thus far has been explaining and educating people on what felt actually is. At first glance most people think the jewelry is made of wood or leather. Once people touch it, do the synapses connect and they exclaim "it's soft!" I love that moment, when something you expected was not at all what you expected!
The other challenge is the current market saturation of other laser cut jewelry out of various materials. It's become the new trend, and you see a lot of acrylic and wood laser cut items. I would like to think that felt is a notch above, as it's something unexpected within the expected. What I mean is, we think of jewelry as something hard, as metal, wood, or plastic. But it is something else entirely, a soft, pliable, yet strong, and dense material that is honest - and by honest, what you see is what you get - wool from sheep with natural dyes. Most people are intrigued by the very nature of the material, when combined that with laser cutting techniques . . .MIND BLOWING!
