Amazon transferred us the funds you all so graciously contributed this week and now we're getting ready to place our order for t-shirts and hoodies. Some of you still haven't filled out your surveys, however, and we need to know your sizes and addresses in order to get your pirate swag out to you. If you haven't completed your survey yet, please do so as soon as you can. We're going to put in our order on Tuesday, though we will be getting some extras in all the designs that will be available for all of you.
Again thanks so much for backing us and another thanks to all of you that came out and made our Maypole Festival such a success. Head to http://www.farmerpirates.com to check out some photos!
Hey backers, Kickstarter fans, and compost enthusiasts,
As of 1:04 pm today, the Farmer Pirates Compost Program is officially a successfully-funded Kickstarter project! All of the members of the cooperative would like to extend their sincere thanks to everyone that contributed some of their hard-won money to help us with this campaign and to everyone that promoted this project on Facebook and Twitter, on their blogs and in the newspaper. With $15,000 in the bank from all of you, we are well towards our goal of redirecting Buffalo's food waste to grow soil at the city's urban farms. The next step is to find a good bargain on a truck and/or trailer!
In two weeks, Farmer Pirates is putting on the first of our seasonal parties for 2012 at Common Roots Farm in the Broadway-Fillmore neighborhood on Peckham Street between Coit and Detroit. Coming off our Kickstarter high, the Maypole Festival this year will be a celebration both of the spring season and the overwhelming support we have received from Western New Yorkers and people around the world! The festival is on Sunday, May 20 from 2 to 6 pm and will feature a goat roast, live music, and farm games.
For those of you wondering when to expect your rewards for backing the project, we will be sending a survey this week to collect your addresses and shirt sizes so we know what to order from our t-shirt printer and for those of you who sprung for the farm tours and Farmer Pirates garden in your backyard, we will work with you to coordinate dates and times!
Again, on behalf of us all, thank you so much for your support. It was looking a little dicey there, but all of you awesome people pulled it out at the 11th hour (literally, we hit $15,000 at around 11:30 last night). We can't wait to see you at the Maypole Festival at Common Roots and to see 250 people rocking Farmer Pirates swag all over Buffalo at the country!
Hey backers and urban farming fans,
We're entering our last week of this fundraising campaign and we're (only) around half-way to our $15,000 goal. The recent Buffalo News and Buffalo Spree articles were a great help, but we're really going to need to make full-court press to get the rest of the way there.
If we don't manage to make it all the way to $15,000, then we won't get any of the more than $7,000 already pledged by you wonderful folks. That's why we need everyone that believes in this project to get as many of their friends and family on board as possible. Tell your kids, tell your wife, tell your husband they're composting everything on the East Side!
In farm news, the folks at Michigan Avenue Farm have been busy prepping more beds, worm-shaped and otherwise, into a delightful and hopefully abundant garden that will be just as much of a pleasure to walk through as it will be to eat from. Photographs of the new beds will be coming soon to the Farmer Pirates website.
With the help of George Kappelt, a farmer in Lockport, the farmers at Common Roots turned over and tilled their nearly three acres last week, and now they're busy planting spinach.
Thanks again so much for all of your support! We're in the home stretch now and I'm sure with all of your help, we are going to get there and really blow up the composting spot!
