Kickstarter

I was born in Milwaukee, WI, mostly grew up in Iowa, and received my MFA in 2010 from Washington University in St. Louis. I was recently awarded an artist residency at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris for this upcoming May and June. I created this kickstarter as a means to make this opportunity possible, as no funding is available for the plane ticket or room & board. 

When I began thinking about work I might make while I’m there I began worrying about language barriers (I know virtually no French) and at the same time thinking about how discovering the urban wildlife of Paris does not pose any such barriers – much like art! (often transcending linguistic, cultural and political divisions). I imagine this whole line of thought will guide my creative research, development and practice while in the city. I want to investigate the physical, cultural and ecological landscapes of Paris through the media of photography, performance and painting. This will be a daily practice. I will be like an old Dharma Bum in the City of Light. More than a document of Paris, I imagine the result will a personal memoir and a record of a daily dialogue with a new and temporary environment recorded and represented through images and activities.
