About this project
THIS IS ME
Writing is my passion. I've been writing since I was a young girl. I've always been afraid to share my art. Rejection is cruel. But I've come to know that creating is an essential part of who I am. For the last ten years, I've written short stories, a novel, screenplays, poems, nonfiction articles and pursued a Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing. My nonfiction articles have been published in Hope for Women Magazine.
My interest in independent filmmaking was solidified during a graduate Digital Video class. For my final project, I successfully wrote and directed a short documentary and short film. In September 2009, the production of my next short film, The March ( http://youtu.be/GPvhacPWTOU ), began. We shot the silent film in one day. The development process was amazing. With Sugar for Me I hope to build on those films and put my talents to use.
I am using Kickstarter to literally launch my career as a filmmaker. I want writing and filmmaking to be more than just a hobby. This is the medium I am using to express myself artistically, but also to highlight points of view that aren’t normally shown. The funds raised gives me the opportunity to give my art the primary position in my life that it deserves and will help shift the direction of my career.
To spread the word, I am having a film release/showcase party for my latest films and other shorts on July 10, 2010.
THE PROJECT
SUGAR FOR ME is a short film I plan to shoot in the fall 2010. Centered around a daily debate between Kera Sanders and Miles Garwin, SUGAR FOR ME asks why women and men chase after pain and destruction and run away from what's best for them. Kera Sanders' biological clock is running out of batteries. Most of her friends are married with children. But she doesn't see the fun in being tied down with two kids, a dog, a suburban house, and a husband just yet. Plus, there are no good men left anyway. Miles Garwin wants to give and be loved, but he can't find a woman who is ready to commit. During their lunch breaks, Kera and Miles debate cultural norms, tradition, politics, and their own beliefs over coffee.
