ABOUT THE FILM

Cruising low and slow through the streets of Chicano San Diego is the city's only all women's car club, the Unique Ladies. Members Pat and Sherry turn heads with their show stopping vehicles, and cause a stir by challenging the gender norm: where men rule the road and women take the sidelines. Although it's been a constant struggle to keep their club alive, they've managed to make it to their fifth year. Now the ladies want to take it a step further and expand the club, inviting another lady lowrider to their club, Linda. Their progress encounters a few bumps on the road as the lowrider scene in still resistant to women taking the driver's seat. 

MEET THE LADIES

One of the founding members of the Unique Ladies, Sherry is smart, sunny, and can always be counted on for help. She tirelessly fights for acceptance in the lowrider scene from tryin gto join an all-men's club to finally creating her own. 

Current president of the Unique Ladies and also a founding member, she's tough as nails and sassy to boot, but she maintains that she is "always a lady" in her actions in dealing with the male dominated lowrider scene. 

The newest member to the club, and a brash outspoken character, Linda works the lowrider system to her advantage. She finds strength with an all female club versus the club she is leaving behind.

WHY IT'S IMPORTANT

The Unique Ladies gives an intimate peek into the cruising life of lowriders with a twist. It's all through the eyes of women. Women's participation has long been ignored, but these ladies are ready to show off their ranflas (cars) and take home the winning trophy from the competitive shows. This is the first documentary of it's kind on the subject matter. Other documentaries on lowrider culture have focused on the sport through a male perpective. We have a chance to share lowrider culture through a wonderful character driven story.

CURRENT STATUS AND TIMELINE

TIMING IS EVERYTHING!! The Unique Ladies is at a fine-cut stage and runs at 27 minutes. The financing through this kickstarter campaign will finance essential post-production needs listed below. At the end of this kickstarter campaign we will have a three week turnaround to get the documentary ready for top festivals including; Sundance, Full Frame, South By Southwest (SXSW), Slamdance and The San Diego Latino Film Festival, to name a few. Screenings will commence in early 2013 and, ideally, The Unique Ladies will screen throughout the U.S. and internationally.

WHY WE NEED HELP & HOW IT WORKS

To date, we have secured 70% of our budget. The success of this campaign will allow The Unique Ladies to screen nationally and internationally and onward toward broadcast and distribution. Kickstarter is an all or nothing deal. We have 25 Days to reach 25k, your contribution will not be deducted from your account until the end date. That means you don't have to worry about having money to back up your pledge until the end of the campaign (September 12). If we don't reach our goal we get $0 and you will not be charged. We are hoping to reach our goal and beyond; the more we receive above our request helps us pay off Kickstarter and Amazon fees, giving more funds for the documentary itself.
