November 19th, 2010- Update!
Reaching the $20K milestone was huge for us and means we get the money and can make the movie. But if you are just coming to this party, you are not too late. $20,000 is not actually enough to make this movie right. We will do the best we can with whatever we end up having to work with, but it’s just a hard truth of filmmaking that things like songs, special effects and the bells and whistles you need to portray glitzy Hollywood cost money. So, the good news is we get the money and can make the film. The other good news is, the higher we can take our Kickstarter number by December 11th, the better the film we can make.

There is some mild but discernible demand out there for more GIRLS WILL BE GIRLS, amid other serendipitous good news:
1. Done right, digital filmmaking has gone from cheap to free.
2. None of our careers are exactly on fire just now.
You can literally shoot a high quality HD movie on a Canon SLR still camera these days, and edit it on your laptop. I’ll go into the dry technical specifics as they relate to “Girls” in a later post, lucky you. The take-away, though, is that we now just need enough to pay for the essentials: insurance, union minimums and to feed everyone (including Varla) on a regular basis during production.
We had once dreamed of doing a second “Girls Will Be Girls” movie “right,” with a handful of millions to throw around for, you know, Star Wagons and such. Instead, this one will be even more threadbare than the first. But given the history of this particular, cough, franchise, maybe threadbare is doing it “right” after all.
