That's a good question, Bryan. Certainly, some of that made it into the book anyway. Most of the 'Eurasian Steppes' article is devoted to describing the people who live there, and 'Lysenkoism', while presented as an event, is fundamentally an idea.
Would anyone back an 'ideas and cultures' book? Certainly we'd get more attention now that we've proven we can put out good content on time and on budget. But a book that's just ideas and cultures would be almost necessarily less useful than a book of settings, events, and NPCs.
I can't speak for Joel, but I'd love to do another Kickstarter. I'm currently mulling over some ideas, but I'm running up against a pretty fundamental problem: I don't want to do anything that's commonly done. One of the best things about the GM's Real-World Reference is that it is so very different from all the other gaming material out there. Certainly I could write a setting or a module, but I don't think it would sell. Why would you back a setting or module from a nobody when you could back one by an established author? For the foreseeable future, if I'm to do another RPG project, it would be the sort of project you don't see every day.
Creator Bryan Gustafson on January 1
So now that the book is published do you have any plans to kickstart the second half of the book (Ideas and Cultures) that you couldn't get in this version of the book?
Creator Jonas Rembratt on September 10, 2012
Hey guys. Great project!
In fact, I'd like to upgrade to a higher tier. Is that possible and, if so, how?
Creator Joel Dalenberg on September 8, 2012
I haven't said much directly here, but I want to thank everyone for their support. We've had more support and interest than we dreamed possible at the start, and now you all get 33% more book because of it! Thanks to everyone for making this possible for us, and we'll do our best to make the book (and the comedy RPGs, and the game) worth every penny.

I can confirm, Chris – Brian is a hero! There will be a space in the survey, and if you're not certain what you want, we can certainly be in email contact to help you decide.
Creator Chris Caporaso on September 8, 2012
You're a hero! My guess is there'll be space for it in the survey they can send out after the backing is finished.
Creator Erev on September 8, 2012
Upgraded to get us over the hump. Speaking of which, how do we go about our article suggestions?

Thanks, Lou! Hope your players enjoy Centralia. :)
Creator Lou Wainwright on August 29, 2012
Loved the write up on Centralia, a town I'd heard of once before, but I had no idea about the burning coal. It's a fantastic setting to use for an RPG adventure, and knowing that it's a real story makes me a lot more comfortable about inserting into my world building. Hope you get funded, as I really enjoy this concept.

Joel just pointed out to me that it might make sense for both of us to write about our backgrounds, so here goes!
I have a B.A. in biology, and a fairly broad background in classics. And I would absolutely follow Joel's lead on anecdotes. If it'd be good gaming, I'd include it, but I'd make sure to point out that this is just an anecdote.
Creator Joel Dalenberg on August 23, 2012
Well, I have a B.A. in economics, but I was almost a history major and I've had a large amateur interest in history for years. I consider myself closest in outlook to the Annales school, if that helps. As for historical accuracy, I'll certainly put in anecdotes that may not be true, but I'll tell you that their veracity is disputed - see the "local legend has it" bits in the Socotra article.
Creator Chris H on August 23, 2012
Tristan and Joel, I'm curious about your backgrounds. Are either/both of you historians/archaeologists/etc? What level of historical accuracy are you shooting for? Will the interesting anecdote, that may not be true, but is evocative make it in?
Creator Rob Trimarco on August 23, 2012
Backed! This looks awesome Tristan! great to see you again at Gen Con! Your luck was uncanny even in the face of Jay's deadly GMing! A lesser man would have fallen beneath his onslaught.
Creator Tristan Zimmerman on August 21, 2012
Yes! We plan for each page to have one image, mostly photographs, but we might include some maps and suchlike. We would be awful teases to describe, say, the caryatids of the Erechteion without providing a photograph!
Creator Chris H on August 21, 2012
Will there be art?
Creator Jyri Engestrom on August 13, 2012
I love this project. And totally agree with Fred's suggestion about the writing sample. Would be great to see a preview!
Creator Tristan Zimmerman on August 10, 2012
Regarding a print product, we're committed to keeping this digital because we know no other way. We've never done anything like this before, and the idea of having to figure out printing and distribution is, frankly, terrifying. Pdfs, though, we know we can figure out.
As for a writing sample, that strikes me as a good idea! Thank you.
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on August 10, 2012
On the backer recruitment angle: any chance of a writing sample, so we could see what a "one page article" looks like in this book? (No rush, I'd expect to see such a thing in an update on the project.)
Creator Fred Hicks / Evil Hat Productions on August 10, 2012
Looks like you're committed to keeping this as a digital product. I'd be intrigued to see if it could work as a printed book, though. (I mean, as a book, obviously it would -- it's more "as a printed book as a product", I mean.)
