About this project
Hello my name is Carey Martell and I’m looking for patrons to help me self-publish my first book.
You can read the first nine chapters of the book at Authonomy.com

About this project Pandemonia Chronicles: DAWN (currently titled Twilight Chronicles on Authonomy and Inkspot) is the first in a series of middle grade novels written to appeal to boys. There is a decline in reading among boys and I would like to try to fix that by writing stories with a blend of comedy, action and fantasy. I believe these three elements are essential to get the attention of young male readers.
Plot summary An encounter with a strange medallion leaves sixteen year-old Gestalt possessed by a Demon King, making him a key player in a war between the Demon King and the Goddess of Life. Unfortunately, the Demon King wants to destroy the world and the Goddess wants to enslave everyone in it.
With the aid of a talking teddy bear, a grumpy demon dog and a unicorn princess who wants to marry him, Gestalt embarks on a journey to stop the Goddess’ sinister plot and find a way to get rid of the Demon King—yet, he must rely on the corrupting power of the Demon King in order to stand a chance against the minions of the Goddess.
Why I’m asking for funding: The thirteen chapter novel is written and complete at 76, 127 words. I would like to self-publish so I can retain creative control over the story and series. It is my dream for Pandemonia Chronicles to be partially modeled after Japanese ‘light novels’. This is a distinct style of publishing (paragraphs are short; literary minimalism is often used; there is usually 1-2 pages of manga-style artwork per chapter). Some light novels include Slayers and Vampire Hunter D.
I am asking for funding so that I can pay for professional artwork and editing. I will also have printed copies of the book for distribution in bookstores and various conventions I attend.
I originally started writing this novel five years ago, when I was a soldier deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Because I was a soldier then, I used the pen name ‘Jim Freedan’ and had commissioned a cover. I’ve held off self-publishing because I’ve been unable to raise the funds for the editing, print job and additional artwork. As I am no longer a soldier, I intend to commission a new cover with my real name, Carey Martell. Also, to avoid association with a certain popular vampire novel I need a cover with the new series title, Pandemonia Chronicles.
I am a disabled veteran and live on my disability compensation. I am not a rich person and would never be able to fund this project on my own, so I am looking for patrons to help me.
