Follow travel photographer's quest to find the models in the most unlikely places around the globe

My name is Steven Baillie and I am a photographer based in New York City. The project I'd like to share with you is based on my adventures working as a travel correspondent for several magazines over the years. While shooting these travel features I started photographing girls I was meeting along the way and ended up getting many of these girls modeling contracts. After years of doing this, I convinced my film maker friend Bob Gilanyi to tag along and see what would happen. On these journeys we got the opportunity to see some incredible things and wanted to create a travel show that went off the beaten path and gave you the chance to see the world through this unfiltered lens. The result is the web series we are calling The Purveyor
On these amazing adventures we also started finding hand crafted products and home brewed spirits that we wanted to share and make available for purchase on a website. Our intent is to launch a multi-media commerce and content platform focused on travel and style for men. The idea addresses the quintessential question of what it means to be a man. It appeals to an innate sense of adventure that men are born with. The first step to launching this website is to complete the web series we started a few years ago. We are here at Kickstarter today trying to get back to Colombia to finish the first episode of The Purveyor and to shoot 3 more episodes to launch the website. All the work on this clip and website is created by Bob and myself. We want do it independently and we need your help to make this dream a reality. Thank you for checking out our project. Here is a deeper look at The Purveyor...
Supermodel Iman was discovered by photographer Peter Beard in Kenya. Gisele Bundchen was discovered hanging out in a mall in Brazil. Natalia Vodianova found her unlikely way into the elite strata of modeling from her mother’s humble fruit stand in the Soviet provincial town of Gorky.
What is it about these women that so captivates our imagination and comes to represent the most rarefied expressions of human beauty? Discovered in the most unlikely places, far from the flashing lights of Paris or the paparazzi of New York City, they represent a pure form of human greatness. Unadulterated by context or environment, like the rose that grows from the concrete their beauty is that much more pure and radiant in its triumph over the world that surrounds it.
The search for such beauty in a world of omnipresent cameras,
Facebook, and YouTube takes us deeper into the hidden
corners of this planet. An adventurous and dangerous quest,
yet one that is timelessly romantic and important, for it is the face
of undiscovered beauty in the context of hardship that
gives us hope and reassurance about the power of our species
and the importance of the unquantifiable aspects of our
consciousness such as love, desire, and perfectibility.
This timeless quest attracts an equally timeless yet timely in
sentiment adventurer. Someone with the courage and daring of a
Hemingway, the aesthetic eye of
a Peter Beard, and the commercial sensibility of a Hollywood agent.
