Update #7: The DVD's out today!
We're so excited! You can order the Under The Mud DVD today from our website, or get it from your local HMV or Borders, and even Asda stores on Merseyside.
There's been a fair bit more amazing Under The Mud news recently too - we got a great review in the Independent which we've listed on the new reviews page of our website.
It really is all systems go on release day: there's a piece about us due in Liverpool Echo this week, and Roy Boulter (Producer), Adam Bailey ("Karl Potts") and Mick Colligan (writer /"DJ Worm") have been interviewed for Radio Four's Upfront show to be broadcast tonight at 17.55.
There's also a Radio Merseyside interview on Thursday at 5.30 - and don't forget to check out our fun radio ad with Ricky Tomlinson if you haven't already!
Update #6: We're on the radio AGAIN? "My arse!"
Ok, maybe our American backers and fans won't realise quite how hilarious that catchphrase-invoking title really is. But trust us - it's great :-)
Earlier this week legendary Liverpool actor Ricky Tomlinson kindly donated his time to record a radio advert for Under The Mud, which you can listen to over at Soundcloud - http://soundcloud.com/und/under-the-mud-radio-advert-with-ricky-tomlinson
Ricky's always been a big supporter of the film, first meeting the writers at a London film event, when the script was still being written. Ricky's delighted that the film is finally being released on DVD - and said how much he enjoyed watching the film again. He also loved the extras DVD, which he hadn't seen before.
Update #5: Dates for your diary - UTM on the airwaves!
Just a quick shout-out to you with some exciting Under The Mud news - the film's producer Roy Boulter (pictured below with High School Musical star Zac Efron!) is going to be guest on a couple of radio shows talking about Under The Mud.
The day before the film's release, Sunday 1st November, he'll be on both Liverpool's City Talk 105.9 and Radio City 96.7 chatting to Pete Price on his show about Under The Mud and what we're doing with Kickstarter.
On the release day itself (Monday 2nd November) he'll be on City Talk's Take 5 show, choosing some of his favourite records and talking about the film.
Thanks to all our backers word is spreading, and we know these radio slots are going to a great help in edging us ever-closer towards our goal! Exciting...
(Want to help us out? Tweet a link to our Kickstarter page, or share it with your friends on Facebook...)
Update #4: The "Voice of Anfield" is Under The Mud's newest fan!
"Two words and the second one is Brilliant! I just had the weekend from Hell and it cheered me up no end!"
We're chuffed to have just received the above endorsement and some words of encouragement from Liverpool football stadium announcer George Sephton (pictured below). What's more, he's even going to play some tunes from the Under The Mud soundtrack and give us a shout-out at the next few home games, helping to further spread the word - thanks George!
And that's not the only exciting news we've had recently - it's now official that Under The Mud is going to be available for download from iTunes from 2nd November. Under The Mud HQ is also currently packed to the rafters with boxes of hot-off-the-press shiny new DVDs, each complete with an hour of extras, and these are going to be available to buy in HMV and Borders from the November release date too.
But of course, we want to make sure the DVDs positively fly off the shelves when they're out - so keep spreading the word and getting your friends and family to pledged a few quid towards getting our amazing Mud bus on the road.
Be quick though...a little bird tells us that some local radio DJs are going to be getting involved with our campaign next week, so make sure you get the credit for discovering us before everyone knows!

Wow! Maybe you could get them to convince the coach driver to play the DVD for the team on the next long journey (maybe somewhere on the South Coast it must get boring, when do we play Portsmouth) a couple of donations from the Stevie and his mates would go a long way!

Great idea Paul - we'll see if George can put in a good word for us ;-)

Update #3: Have you done a good deed yet today?
Update #2: Liverpool's Art of Digital and our own bus!
We had a busy time last week what with getting our Kickstarter project going, talking at Liverpool's Art of Digital conference as well as working on all things Under The Mud that aren't Kickstarter-related. And there are exciting things to tell you about all three of those!
Firstly, we had great fun at the Art of Digital conference. This was an event put together by our mates at Arts Council England and FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) to promote the use of digital tools within arts organisations. This was really cool as, while everyone should know that "digital tools" and "social media" are hugely useful for artists and creators, it's very rare that you get such a diverse array of techies, marketers, futurists and artists all together in one place. There's a good outline of some of the talks that took place over on the Art In Liverpool blog, but personal highlights were Herb Kim talking about the Thinking Digital conference that he runs, and how Twitter and blogging were key promotional tools for this, Matt Mason on "The Pirate's Dilemma" plus hearing about how Liverpool photography collective Fab came together through social media.
We were of course talking about the Under The Mud / Kickstarter project, explaining how the film was put together with input from different people all over the place from whom we "begged, borrowed and stole" (according to Lenny's video!) - basically doing what is sometimes known as crowdsourcing. We compared this to the way that your contributions to Kickstarter are crowdfunding Under The Mud, and how this is a really nice fit in keeping with the community spirit of the film. It also allows a digital social media campaign to become a really social media campaign in the offline world, as explained on the presentation slides.
And speaking of moving social media campaigns into the offline world, we've had some great news with our bus! We've managed to find an authentic 1950's style old fashioned bus (rather than a boring modern-day one) which we're going to paint with everything and anything Under The Mud and drive around Liverpool - not just through Garston (where the film’s set) and along Penny Lane, past Paul McCartney's old houses, but John, George and Ringo's too - as well all the other famous Liverpool landmarks across our city - including Liverpool and Everton's football grounds. We know it’ll catch people’s attention going around town - we'll even take some of the cast along for the ride! We've had to call in a few favours, but we think this is going to look even cooler ever - and don't tell anyone yet, but we might take the bus on a bit of a tour...so the bus with your name on will be going even further afield.
Of course, to do this we need to keep the momentum going with Kickstarter! Thank you so much to everyone who's already contributed - we're excited and flattered by how many people from all over the globe have got involved so far. And if you can't contribute any money, why not become a fan of Under The Mud on Facebook and suggest that your friends do the same?
There are so many other cool things going on behind the scenes that we're not allowed to mention yet, but stay tuned and we'll be able to share some more of the great stuff our contributions are helping us to do soon :-)
Lots of love,
The "Under The Mud" team
Update #1: Kickstarting our campaign!
Wow, we only launched on Friday and already we're the best part of $400 closer to our goal!
Thanks so much to all backers so far - we couldn't be more excited about this and we're shouting it from the rooftops. We will of course be making regular updates to keep you informed via Kickstarter, but if you want to hear from us via another medium (or just can't get enough of Under The Mud!), you can:
- become our fan on Facebook
- follow us on Twitter (with plenty of indie film and Liverpool links)
- look at stills from the film and our festival antics on Flickr
- read our blog and check out our gorgeous new website
- watch a trailer of the film on Vimeo (with bloopers and other fun stuff coming soon)
Also - we really appreciate everyone that's tweeted about Under The Mud. It's so lovely that people are helping the film get the attention it deserves, so if you're big on Twitter, or you just think your Mum/mate/colleague/dentist/whatever might be into what we're doing, please do spread the word!
We'll be back with more of an update soon (some exciting things going on here in Liverpool!), but that's it from us for the time being. Onwards!
Love,
The Under The Mud team

Since March 2000 Hurricane Films have been telling great stories - fact and fiction - for both film and television.
The company's first feature film, Under The Mud is a unique collaboration with community groups working with young people in South Liverpool. The film has enjoyed a great response from critics and audiences alike at film festivals around the world, and was described by The Guardian as “possibly the best British Film you will never see”.
The latest feature from Hurricane Films is the lyrical, visual poem, ‘Of Time and the City’, directed by one of Britain’s greatest auteurs, Terence Davies. The film was selected to play at a special ‘out of competition screening’ at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival where it received huge critical acclaim. The film has so far been invited to over 35 film festivals around the world and will receive a theatrical release in the autumn.
We’re always looking for that next story…
