NB. We’re accepting donations from around the world from supporters who want to help us get the film out there. The lovely Kickstarter of course works in US Dollars, but don’t worry, any money you want to donate in any currency is welcome! We want to paint our own bus with scenes from the film and take it past Penny Lane and Paul McCartney's old house (and maybe even on tour!) to get people talking and show the big movie execs what we can do...
...and you can get your name on the bus! The story so far... Hollywood stars love Under The Mud (check out the video!). The Guardian called it "the best British film you’ll never see". But we want to make sure people do see it.
Under the Mud is the work of a group of teenage first-time scriptwriters produced over two years of workshops in Liverpool, England. Critics, cinema-goers and film festivals alike have fallen in love with the story of teenage slacker, Magic, and a hectic day in the life of his "family from hell".
Despite all this, the big distribution companies won't risk their money on a film (that people love!) because it doesn't have any big stars. We've finished making the film, we've got DVDs ready to sell, we just need to get the word out. And that's where you come in.
What we want to do We've managed to find an authentic 1950's style old fashioned bus (rather than a boring modern-day one) which we're going to paint with everything and anything Under The Mud and drive it around Liverpool - not just through Garston (where the film’s set) and along Penny Lane, past Paul McCartney's old houses, but John, George and Ringo's too - as well all the other famous Liverpool landmarks across our city - including Liverpool and Everton's football grounds. We know it’ll catch people’s attention going around town - we'll even take some of the cast along for the ride!
We need you! And you can be part of a piece of independent movie history! We want to write the names of our Kickstarter backers on this bus that'll be seen by everyone here in Europe's 2008 Capital of Culture, home of all things Beatles and Creative Centre of The Universe, LIVERPOOL! We're planning on releasing the DVD by the end of the year, and hijacking the bus before then, so with your help we can do something crazy to get people talking and show the big movie bosses what we can do!
We will of course be making regular updates to keep you informed via Kickstarter, but if you want to hear from us via another medium (or just can't get enough of Under The Mud!), you can:
-become our fan on Facebook -follow us on Twitter (with plenty of indie film and Liverpool links)
-look at stills from the film and our festival antics on Flickr -read our blog and check out our gorgeous new website -watch a trailer of the film on Vimeo (with bloopers and other fun stuff coming soon)
Become immortalised in the Liverpool fairytale that is Under the Mud with your name on the “Hall of Fame” section of the website, and a link to your blog, Twitter profile, Myspace page etc.
You can cherish and revere your own copy of a limited-edition pre-release screener of the DVD as sent to critics, film festivals and movie industry types. (Plus immortalisation on the website, as above).
Get your name on the Liverpool bus that we’re going to take over and plaster with Under the Mud! It goes past Penny Lane and Paul McCartney’s house, and we know it’s going to cause a bit of a stir - so become part of Liverpool history! (Plus all of the above, including a copy of the DVD).
Own your own piece of authentic independent movie memorabilia, with a limited edition poster for Under the Mud signed by the cast. (Plus all of the above, including a copy of the DVD and your name on a Liverpool bus).
Feel like a moviestar for the night by attending our VIP screening in London. You'll have to make your own way there, but after that you can enjoy the film, meet the cast and soak up the glamorous world of independent film! (Plus all of the above, including a copy of the DVD, a signed poster and your name on a Liverpool bus).
Aside from our eternal gratitude, awe and admiration, we’ll record a personalised thank-you video from the cast where they’ll tell the world about your generosity and amazingness, as well as offering their no-doubt profound thoughts on a subject of your choice. AND if you can make your way to Liverpool, we'll put you up in a nice hotel for a couple of nights so you can see the bus you helped paint! (Plus all of the above, including a copy of the DVD, tickets to the VIP screening, a signed poster and your name on a Liverpool bus).
Since March 2000 Hurricane Films have been telling great stories - fact and fiction - for both film and television.
The company's first feature film, Under The Mud is a unique collaboration with community groups working with young people in South Liverpool. The film has enjoyed a great response from critics and audiences alike at film festivals around the world, and was described by The Guardian as “possibly the best British Film you will never see”.
The latest feature from Hurricane Films is the lyrical, visual poem, ‘Of Time and the City’, directed by one of Britain’s greatest auteurs, Terence Davies. The film was selected to play at a special ‘out of competition screening’ at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival where it received huge critical acclaim. The film has so far been invited to over 35 film festivals around the world and will receive a theatrical release in the autumn.
We’re always looking for that next story…
