Update #11: Looking for volunteers on 9/11 to hand out my Scar Tissue newspaper!
My Scar Tissue newspaper will be handed out during the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. This is on a Sunday morning ( September 11th ) from 6 AM till noon. I am looking for 20 volunteers to help me with the distribution. You will be working in pairs by exits of subways and on street corners giving out the newspaper. You can contact me through my website; www.reneclement.com. Thank you!
Update #10: New Kickstarter project; Scar Tissue.
Dear friends,
I have launched a new Kickstarter project called Scar Tissue; http://kck.st/jx5eK3
I am moving on to my next project, entitled Scar Tissue. In August of 2010 I started a year-long journey to examine New York City in pictures as it continued to recover from the 9/11 tragedy almost 10 years ago. I wanted to feel the pulse of the city, and to see if its wounds have healed, or if scar tissue still remains. This past year has become highly charged, in the runup to the 10th anniversary, with controversies relating to the Islamic center near Ground Zero, in addition to the death of Osama Bin Laden. Ground Zero is now in full development, after sitting quietly for many years; a gaping hole in the city’s fabric has been filled and new buildings start to tower once again.
My project will be released in newspaper format during the ten year anniversary of the event. As this project evolves, details will be posted on my website www.reneclement.com and my blog http://reneclementphoto.blogspot.com/. I will also start a new Kickstarter page to fund the Scar Tissue project and I hope to benefit from your support again.
In closing, let me reiterate my appreciation of your help with Promising Land. It would not have been possible otherwise.
Warmest regards,
Rene Clement

Update #9: While you are waiting patiently............Part III
Last week I visited Holland to check on the printing of the book. The printers of Drukkerij De Slinger in Alkmaar were very nice and professional. I add some pictures from that day.
I was interviewed by Dutch VPRO Radio about Promising Land.
( Sorry, it's in Dutch of course )
The Volkskrant Magazine is going to publish 8 pages in their April 30th issue. So check it out if you're in Holland.
It's almost done, by the end of the month the books will be ready at the binder. Then I will start shipping. So hang in there:)
Update #8: While you are waiting patiently............Part II
Last friday graphic designer Esther de Boer and I finished the book design and all the printing preparations to send to the printer. It was a long ride of drafts, skype-sessions, corrections, 2nd drafts, scanning, 3rd drafts, re-scanning and so on. Did I mention skype-sessions, where would a photographer in New York and a designer in Amsterdam be without it?!
Next week I will fly to Amsterdam to check on the proofs and to see the printing in progress. It will take another two weeks after that for the binder to put everything together.
BTW, I love the process of designing and bookmaking and I feel intensely happy that I have the chance to publish this first book. So, check out the teaser I put on my website and keep an eye on your mailbox for your copy in about 4 to 5 weeks.
New York, April 2011
Update #7: PDN Magazine on crowd funding
The March issue of PDN Magazine has a feature article about 'How to pitch a crowd for project funding. Financing your personal projects through crowd sourced funding appeals takes hard work and a lot of promotional skills.'
Interviews with me and two other photographers; Stanley Greenberg and Amira Al-Sharif about their experiences with Kickstarter.
