Kickstarter

Last week, a message appeared in my inbox from the Deborah Hay SPCP Coordinator regarding my Kickstarter and I was scared to open it fearing they were going to say something like, based on your videos or what you've said here, we don't think you are a good fit for the program anymore. I don't know why I thought this.  I had fact-checked and tried to just be simple and authentic in writing this proposal, but still I became paranoid that I had said the wrong thing, misrepresented myself or her work wrong, or maybe even offended someone.

I opened it and was pleasantly surprised to find that they thought it was well done and congratulated me on it.  What a relief. 

But in all seriousness, it is that constant self-criticism and fear of people hating what you are up to that sometimes makes moving forward as an artist or stepping outside of a studio feel incredibly daunting.  After fundraising for arts organizations for years, I was surprised that it FREAKED THE F*CK out of me to ask for cash for my own project.  But both because it's a requirement of this program and when I looked at the overall cost of the whole endeavor (travel, room and board, three months of rehearsal space, performance space for the shows, etc), I and knew I had to do it.  

ALL I CAN SAY IS, YOU ARE A MIRACLE.  Thank you for your support.  SIXTY-EIGHT PATRONS so far and I feel good about getting to the goal by Saturday at 2pm.
