BIO-ART: First US display of fashion design using bacteria growths by young Israeli Designer Sarin Zakan + her mentor Eshel Ben-Jacob

This will be the first US viewing of work by young Israeli fashion designer Sarin Zakan.  Her pieces will be displayed on September 19th at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood, California.  Along side her work will be BioArt bacteria patterns from Professor Eshel Ben-Jacob.

Zakan cultivates intricate and beautiful bacteria growth patterns on a plasticine material that she uses to make collars and dresses.  She learned the technique in the Tel Aviv lab of Physics professor Eshel Ben-Jacob, who is considered the godfather of bacteria art patterns.

Sarin Zakan's work has been covered by the BBC in July 2012 and the Israeli news:                                                                                                                  Israeli News Coverage of Sarin Zakan:

Professor Eshel Ben-Jacob's imagery will be on the cover and featured in an upcoming publication by MOMA (New York).  He is the Maguy-Glass Chair in Physics of Complex Systems at Tel Aviv University, Fellow of the American Physical Society, and Former President of the Israel Physical Society.
His artwork with bacteria patterns (separate but relating to his work as a scientist) has been covered by numerous sources including the cover and an article in Science magazine, videos on the BBC, and coverage in Wired, Seed, and New Scientist.
