Our Story

Hello! My name is Alisa and I am the owner of Um, Yum!, an online bakery. We have been catering locally for years and recently started shipping nationally through our online site.  http://www.etsy.com/shop/UmYum  Because of our success, we are ready to expand our business!

The Impact

We specialize in gourmet baked goods and use only the freshest and highest quality ingredients. We use locally grown and organic ingredients, whenever possible. We also make our own extracts so that the treats have the most flavor possible!  We have excellent family recipes, tried and true technique, and a drive for success. 

We are located in San Marcos, Texas. SM is home of Texas State University, which boasts a population of over 35k+ students. We even have a beautiful river that runs through our town! (Not to mention the outlet mall is three miles away- Voted in the top three best shopping destinations worldwide!)

San Marcos is the perfect location and there is nothing like our bakery in this town! 

Why a shipping container business?! 

Shipping containers are extremely affordable, plentiful, and durable. They are super efficient and can be constructed to be incredibly eco-friendly. They can be designed to be incredibly attractive and sleek. Because of their compact size, countries over seas have been using these containers for urban and disaster housing.  

We hope to build this business and help the community in the process. I am a Rotarian and we believe in Service Above Self, and this is exactly what Um, Yum! intends to do through our Giving Back Program. Um, Yum! will donate a portion of the proceeds of a specific item's sales each month to the local food bank and animal shelter. 

What We Need  

We want to renovate two shipping containers into a compact business. We are currently looking for funding to upcycle the containers, outfit the kitchen, furnish the store front, and decorate the outdoor space.We also need to market our company, so everyone can see how awesome our treats taste!! We need at least 20k to get going this project moving, but we we are going to need more than 35k to complete the project.

Since we can't ship internationally, international contributors will receive artwork and jewelry made by resident artists.
