About this project
While hundreds of American women compete in boxing tournaments each year, the world of female boxing is largely unexplored and misunderstood. Told from a first person perspective, "Fighting It" is filmmaker Jill Morley's personal story of healing through boxing. In 2007, Jill decided to fight in the NY Golden Gloves, the most elite amateur boxing tournament in the world. While training, she encountered the biggest fight of her life. Inspired by boxers, Maureen Shea, Susan Merlucci, and Kimberly Tomes, she realized that the real fight for all of them, was inside.
Four years in the making, we want to bring "Fighting It" to fruition in the next few months, but we will need you to join us in the fight to finish the film!
While the rough cut screenings have been powerful, we realized we needed a new editor to restructure the story to give the movie what it deserves. This was not in the initial budget so we are raising money to pay the editor, get a proper sound design and mix, license archival footage, and bring "Fighting It" to fruition. The money raised here will go to that while we apply for grants for additional distribution funds. While we have been fortunate to get generous donors along the way, most of this film has been an "out of pocket labor of love/hate." NOTE TO SELF: DO NOT make that mistake again!!!!!
By offering you incentives like the first copies of the film when it is finished, right off the press, boxing lessons with me, producer credits and the like, we hope you will want to be a part of the "Fighting It" team.
If you are interested in a tax write-off instead of a reward, please contact me through my website and we can do it that way, since I am fiscally sponsored by Women Make Movies. Otherwise, please join us here and see if we can kickstart the end of the edit!
