We are students of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. In preparing for graduation, we knew we faced a bleak job market. Rather than settling for menial jobs that wouldn’t maximize our strengths, we decided to create our own dream jobs. After all, everyone thinks about their ideal job, but few people have the opportunity to create it. Our dream is not only to create our own jobs where we get to make others lives better, but to (hopefully) create jobs that will fulfill the dreams of others as well. We use email frequently, receiving an average of 60 - 100 messages every weekday. We quickly realized that the world is in an email crisis.
Is there any way I could upgrade my backer level?
Thanks, William
Hey guys,
Been a month since we last heard from you. What's happening with the project? How's production coming? Anything we can see yet?
Each morning at work, when I fire up my p.o.s. outlook, everything that can be, is crossed in hopes that I'll find a link to download Mail Pilot. Can't wait guys! 8)
SOOOO excited for this, hope it is going well guys!
Thank you all for the support and comments! Please also check out our new google moderator page we've set up to answer more questions and engage more discussion: http://www.google.com/moderator/#16/e=1e230d
Firstly congrats... Well done both.
You said in your update you've "chosen the technologies we want to use for our first release of Mail Pilot".
Can you tell us what those technologies are?
Yay funded! Congrats guys! Looking forward to the Beta :)
Really looking forward to seeing and using Mail Pilot! Your project is what got me to finally join Kickstarter ( no pressure!! ).
Glad to see some Hokies kicking butt and changing the email game.
Congrats on being funded !
Congratulations! Looking forward to see this in action.
I knew it!,,,, so proud of you guys!
Woho funded! I am really excited about this software!
I'm in for 2 years. Looking forward to this. I have 6000+ unread e-mails right now. I am also interested in seeing what kind of SPAM filters you will have. I think a big part of the e-mail crisis is related to SPAM.
Great idea, looking forward for it :)
Will be also great if you guys consider Arabic support. Will be glad to help.
An additional thought on the "add notes" feature. It would be great if the note could pop up when the cursor hovers over an email in the emails list, and disappear as the cursor is moved off that particular email.
BTW, I'm very excited to use Mail Pilot. I was a fan of Microsoft Entourage actually because there were more ways to organize and string related emails, etc. I know a lot of features that aren't shown will be included in the launch. I was wondering if there might be something where you can click on a tag you created in order to see all of the emails related, in addition to just typing in and searching by the tag name. (My apologies if this is how tagging usually works. I use Mail, which does not have tagging.)
Great project. I second the thought someone contributed, about being able to add notes on first reading which would save having to reread the email later. Also, tagging would be critical for me. I currently use postbox and the ability to tag across all my addresses is the feature that makes me most productive with email.
I love the idea and the UI, but the font of the logo and of the information texts seems very unbalanced.
a integration of social networks would be great! after outlook and apple mail i can not wait for this program!
Did you guys see this? Seems you're not the only one who wants to reimagine Email...

@sowens- The Signature Series will not have any feature alterations. All the differences will be visual, and users that get this kickback will have the option to switch between the two interfaces.
@Shawn Wallis- Thanks for the suggestion and feedback. We'll be sure to keep this in mind as we develop Mail Pilot.
@Aldo Valadez- One account will work for all of your desktop and mobile devices with all of your email addresses. If you want to add more accounts for family members, etc, and want the $25/year guarantee, you can opt for the $100 level to get 3 subscriptions at this time. Let us know if you have any further questions regarding this.
@William Edmonds- Unfortunately, we will not be supporting an app for the Kindle Fire, however, we will be providing a mobile web version that should work on the Kindle Fire.
Great concept guys - looking forward to seeing it in action!
One key issue I've had with many mail apps is the ability to properly format an email signature with anything other than basic text. Not sure if you're relying on a local mail app to handle this, but either way - please make sure you have full support for html/rich text signatures!
How different is the signature series interface going to be from the regular one? Is it just a different theme or will there be special features?
This is a great concept - want it yesterday. Can't wait!
I'll support anything that lets me work cross platform between ubuntu and OS X. I love working professionally on OS X for my mac pro, but have stopped buying mac portables because there is such a selection of portable hardware that fits my needs with linux. Looking forward to trying this.
I dropped this as an email before I backed it, but it would be so awesome if you could tag emails. It's a less formal way of sorting than labels, because one email can have more than one tag. To start off, just let the user tag, then later on have some kind of algorithm that suggests tags based on tags already being used or something like that.
Also, as a very recent VT grad, GO HOKIES!
Will we be able to add more seats/subscriptions later? Will the $25 per year apply towards future add ons. I have several macs ie iMac, MBP, and MacPro. Will one account be ok. Thanks
looking forward to seeing what you've done and taking this for a test drive :)
Looks awesome. From one tekkie to another wishing you the best of luck!
Looks awesome, congrats on getting funded! Also, Go Hokies!
Will a version be available for Kindle Fire?
@Daniel Vega- Exchange support is one of our top priorities. It may not be available in the initial release, but we'll make every effort to offer exchange support as soon as possible.
Great idea and looking forward to using it. Hopefully not a dumb question, but will this work with my corporate email client (exchange)?
Thank you all for your support and feedback! Keep the comments coming!
@Chel Wolverton- Yes, Mail Pilot will definitely support keyboard shortcuts!
@Alex Chan, Ryan Town, and Alan Greene - We like the way you think! This feature is definitely on our radar. It may not be available in the initial release, but its definitely in the works, and we hope to deliver this functionality as soon as possible.
@ Martijn Raave- Yes spam filtering is very important to us, and we're definitely working to develop some great tools for that aspect. The Auto Pilot feature will allow you to create "rules" that send specific messages into specific Review Lists based upon a number of parameters (sender, subject, CC, etc).
@ Craig Shih- The Auto Pilot feature will allow you to have these messages automatically marked as complete and/or sent into specific review lists. We realize that some of these messages (such as newsletters) are things that you eventually want to read, but don't need cluttering up your inbox and workflow.
@Andy Howe- Yes, you will be able to switch between Mail Pilot and all your existing email clients (and webmail) the entire time you use Mail Pilot.
Finally, finally, finally... someone reimagined email, thank you guys!
Congratulations on reaching your goal! I'm looking forward to the release :)
Congratulations!
Going along with the “notes” idea, perhaps a short note could be bulldog-clipped to the email the same way you have attachments clipped on for easier recognition.
Totally agree with Alex chan. Amazing idea. Being able to attach little "notes" or whatever you will call them to an email would be fantastically useful. Make a note to "Forward this onto Kate and mark it in your datebook" or "Check this out on Yelp to see if it's good," then mark it to be read later. When you come back to it later, you can instantly see what you need to do.
A thought: it might be quite nice to have a notes field for incoming emails, which I could just scribble a few remarks about the email. It would be quite useful for summarising the main points of an email (rather than sifting through the whole email again), making some notes on what’s been done/still needs to happen, and so on. I don’t know how this would work within the UI of the app, but I throw it out as an idea.
PS I have just seen that you’re from Blacksburg, which makes the project a little cooler in my eyes. One of my best and college neighbour is from Blacksburg, and she’s awesome. By association, so are you.
So happy for you guys!!! SOOOO CLOSE!!
THIS IS AN AMAZING CONCEPT!!! Congrats and I cant wait to use it!
Hey guys, I can't wait to see the finished/beta releases. In the meantime, my one question is....will you have keyboard shortcuts operational? Thanks!
Can't wait to try it, going nuts will all the different mail clients (incl. web) I use over quite a lot of different platforms. So MP hopefully streamlines my mail, but also the experience over different platforms.
One question (maybe obvious, but just asking): Will there be some functionality regarding Spam/Junk mail filtering and the possibility to create rules for specific mails (content, sender, subject etc)?
