We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

Funded! This project successfully raised its funding goal on January 15.

Photo-main

This one stop project for making Pony pillows, shirts, ties, and all of your Equestrian clothing needs.

Project goal of $750: Develop silk screen patterns for all of the mane six, and use them to make pillows with their likeness on them easily and with high quality.

$750+: I will also make patterns for background ponies that are not specifically asked for by donators who receive certain rewards.

$900+ : I have been knocking around the idea of making a bunch of different screens of different pony parts (eyes, mane, tail, etc) and basically make a pony creator, where people can get their oc pony made into a pillow.

Either that or make Pony hoodies, ties, vests, socks, etc... Just know it will go to making something amazing that is pony or geek related.

We all would like to get one of those really nice plushies of our favorite ponies, but unfortunately most of us have relatively small budgets. My goal is to use my skills and change that. This will be a fun project for me to work on and I will pass the results on to as many bronies as I can. After the kickstarter is done and I finish sending off the rewards, I will continue making more, and design and make plushies of other characters, including some of my own.

The budget I set is limited to only making the Mane six and one background pony, any extra money made will be for making patterns for more of the background ponies or buying higher quality materials.

What the money will pay for:

Silk screen mesh, framing materials, emulsion fluids, fabric inks, cloth, pillow stuffing and shipping for the rewards (Man, FedEx is expensive).

The process:

Step one: Drawing.

In this step I will draw the pony, this can take several days until I get it to the right quality. Once I have finished drawing it I will print out the design in the appropriate size (a little smaller than life sized for the big ones). All designs used will be original ones made by me or by another artist with their permission.

Step two: Making the pattern
I place the printed version under a large piece of clear acrylic, and then the screen on top of it. I can then easily trace and paint the design onto the screen. This step takes up to two days to complete. One screen is made for black outlines and another for color.

Step three: Printing the pony

With the screens prepped I then place a piece of cloth with the color of the pony being made (Canary yellow for Fluttershy) and print the colors first (Light pink for hair and green for the eyes.) After the ink dries I will then place the black outline screen over the cloth and paint the black outlines in.
This stage takes very little time and I can print of dozens of these a day if necessary.

Step four: Sewing part 1

I cut around the printed pony and sew it with my sewing machine in the general shape of the design. 10-20 min per pillow, depending on size and complexity of shape. This is done with the pillow inside out, so that the edges will look clean when finished.

Step five: Stuffing

I  turn the pillow right side out and stuff the pillow with pillow fluff until it is appropriately soft and cuddly.

Step six: Sewing part 2

I sew the final bit by hand, sealing in the fluff.

Step seven: Shipping
(not that kind silly)

Obviously this is the part where in a few short days the pillows make their way across the country and possibly the world to your doorstep.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

The biggest issues involved would have to be making the silk screens. As you can see from the Pinkie prototype, some details were messed up, not allowing ink to flow properly. Thankfully with the funding I will be able to work on a larger scale, making detail work easier.

One thing I have also been doing to help with quality is practice, practice, practice, not only in drawing but also in making silk screens.

FAQ

  • Hmmmn, if you don't want to replace either the mini Pinkie Pillow or the T-shirt, I guess you could raise your current donation to (Tier level+$10).

So if you were to donate $60 and want to include the tie, you could increase to $70 and receive all of those wonderful items.

  • The pillows will be machine washable, although I suggest drying them thoroughly on the delicate setting.

The ties are polyester and will use special ink to bond properly with it, so don't use high heat for them as it might cause the fibers to fuse.

The shirts are 100% cotton and the ink will not bleed since they will be given a light wash after being painted to ensure this, wash normally.
