This is a break even project. Backing is not used for the trip!! The backing is used for the production of the rewards and that is it! It is a chance for us to share this experience with others.

This project is to document a cross continent journey without relying on the comforts of home. No hotels, no fast food, no grocery stores. Just us on our own.

What is it about?

So you might be asking yourself, what is this even about? This project is about the journey of a husband and wife, a journey that will take us from the bright lights of Las Vegas to the vast wilderness of Alaska. This journey will be documented through the lens of our cameras and will be shared with you, the backers of this project. When the trip is complete we will be opening an online gallery that will allow people to view the work we have created and purchase prints or copies of our books.

This project is not just about heading out in the wilderness to take pictures of trees and wildlife. Our intention is to document this entire journey. We want you to see the small towns we stop in along the way, the long endless stretches of highway in between those towns, and everything else we encounter on this journey. We also want you to see the experience of living a self reliant life for a month. Our plan does not include staying in hotels and we won't be stopping for food along the way. Everything we need during this trip will either be brought with us or will be found or caught in the wild. The point of this trip is to spend a month living off the grid, documenting the entire experience, and then sharing it with others with the photographs we take. Do you think you could survive 30 days? Do you think we will?

The book will be a collection of photos from the start of our trip all the way until the end of our trip. The online gallery will be the entire collection of photos we take during our trip (nothing will be withheld) and the custom postcards we send you will be images from different locations during our trip. The backers of this project will not only be viewing some amazing photographs, they will also be getting an in depth look at what it takes to survive 30 days on your own.

So where are you going?

Well we kind of touched on where we were going in the previous section, but I think our backers would really like more details about where this journey will take us.

We will be starting off in Las Vegas and will be heading north for the border. The plan is to head north on Interstate 15 toward Alberta, Canada. From Alberta we head even further north and into British Columbia to connect with the Alaska Highway which will take us the rest of the way into Alaska. We were originally planning on only going as far north as Fairbanks. We changed the plan up a little and will now be heading as far north as the Arctic Circle on the Dalton Highway. On the return trip we will be staying as close to the coast as possible and will be heading through Washington and Oregon. 

We do not plan to release all of our destinations as we would like some of them to be a surprise for all of our backers. Some places we will be stopping for sure include Dawson Creek in British Columbia, Denali National Park, and the Top of the World Highway between Alaska and Canada.

Why all the money?

The money that is raised will be used to fund the production of our books, photographic prints, postcards, and the online gallery. The money being raised is not being used to pay for the trip. We are paying for the trip and our backers are helping us pay for the project.

Publishing a book, creating gallery sized prints, sending and printing postcards, and designing and publishing an online gallery is not easy or cheap. Every penny that we raise will be put into this project to make sure it is the best possible. Basically whatever level you back at is paying for that reward. The little that will be left over will pay to create the online gallery and to allow others to experience this journey.

When do you leave?

The firm, set in stone date of our departure is July 21st, 2012. On this day we will get into our packed car and we plan to be on the road for about 4 weeks. If we find we need more time then we will take it. Once we park the car and head out into the wilderness we don't want to be on a time limit. We want to explore without the feeling of having to rush.
