A look at the current state of Traditional Chinese Medicine, told by the doctors leading the field.

ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Dr. Tsung-Jung Ho, Director of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) at the China Medical University, offers an in-depth look at the importance of TCM as well as its contemporary application. We will utilize Dr. Ho’s unique perspective to offer our viewers an understanding of the different elements of TCM, in addition to the crucial role China Medical University plays in the preservation of these methods.

THE STORY

Having spent time with Dr. Ho and seeing firsthand how his work has helped me to deal with serious chronic pain, I decided to produce a film to inform and encourage other people suffering from to seek this kind of treatment because there has never been a comprehensive feature-length documentary about Traditional Chinese Medicine. With acupuncture boasting over 5,000 certified facilities in just the United States alone, this documentary will look to illustrate the ever-growing interest in eastern medicine while spreading awareness of its dynamic capabilities.

The basis of Dr. Ho’s treatment focuses on a combination of both Acupuncture and Ear Acupuncture. Ear acupuncture is different from traditional acupuncture in that it is based on the idea that the ear is a micro system with the entire body represented on the auricle, the outer portion of the ear. These specific ailments of the entire body are believed to be treatable by the stimulation of the surface of the ear exclusively.

In addition to acupuncture, Dr. Ho’s program will integrate several other Chinese Medicine techniques:

Tai Chi, which research has been proven to show increased balance, control, and flexibility in those dealing with chronic pain.

Qigong, is a practice based in learning to control and manipulate “qi,” a form of body energy. In the body, qi represents the unseen vital force that they believe sustains life.

Music Therapy: in Chinese Medicine, it is believed that each organ/element is accompanied by its own specific musical counterpart. This section of the program will focus on specifically aiding in the recovery through musical influence.

Acupressure is a medical technique derived from acupuncture. In acupressure physical pressure is applied to acupuncture points rather than through the use of needles.

Cupping involves placing cups containing reduced air pressure (suction) on the skin. This method applies acupressure by creating a vacuum on the patient's skin. The therapy is used to dispel stagnant blood and lymph, thereby improving qi flow.

Herbal Medicine involves using local natural ingredients in developing specific herbal remedies to accompany the rest of the healing.
