Falcons in the City is a picture book about Frida the peregrine falcon who lives on the Fremont Bridge in Portland, Oregon.
Cities, densely populated and developed areas of the planet, are the last place you would expect to see wildlife; yet cougars, coyotes, bears, skunks, bald eagles, and hawks wander into city landscapes, and some actually take up residence, as do peregrine falcons.
Falcons in the City is a picture book about the peregrine falcons that nest and live on bridges in the Pacific Northwest city of Portland, Oregon. The tale was created from true stories of human and falcon interactions there, and is accompanied by beautiful watercolor illustrations. My story is child friendly, the main character, Frida the falcon, is also the narrator.
Falcons in the City celebrates the commitment that wildlife biologists and volunteer naturalists have towards protecting these falcons. We would probably not see peregrine falcons any where in the USA today if DDT had not been banned 40 years ago, thanks in part to the stewardship efforts of the scientific community and concerned citizens.
So here is a wildlife success story that I would like to pass on to the next generation. When I meet my goal for the printing costs, 500 copies of this book will be available for young naturalists to enjoy, wherever they live!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
My story has been professionally edited. The illustrations are complete. A local publisher, Inkwater Press, is assisting with steps for self-publishing, and book design. A printer has been contacted. My only obstacle is funding the printing costs. If the $2000K goal is attained, you as a backer will receive the pledge reward and the book will be published!
