Update #64: Great cause! Juggle to help those in need
Hope everyone is well. I wanted to share this email with you from one of our supporters. He has organized a great event to help those who truly need it. Even a little bit can go a long way. Please take a second to read it and visit onlinesocceracademy.com and spread the word when you can. Thanks so much, Rise & Shine!
Subject: Will you participate in the OSA World Juggle-a-thon?
We are excited to announce that we will be participating and supporting the OSA World Juggle-a-thon to benefit Nothing But Nets on April 25, 2012! This event is put on by OnlineSoccerAcademy.com and it is a great way for soccer players, fans and coaches to juggle to get better, juggle to saves lives, and fight malaria through soccer!
Attached to this email is the OSA World Juggle-a-thon pledge sheet. Please use it and start fundraising today. For more information including juggling tips, FAQ’s, prizes, how it works and a pledge sheet please visit http://www.OnlineSoccerAcademy.com.
What is the OSA World Juggle-a-thon?
Every 45 seconds a child in Africa dies from malaria—a preventable disease carried by mosquitoes. We can help. This is why we created the OSA World Juggle-a-thon, a worldwide fundraiser put on by OnlineSoccerAcademy.com to support the Nothing But Nets campaign. Nothing But Nets is a global, grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. Through this campaign, anyone can donate just $10 to purchase a bed net, deliver it to a family, and educate them on its proper use.
On World Malaria Day—April 25—at 6pm their standard time, soccer players, coaches, and fans everywhere are invited to participate by juggling to raise money for life-saving nets. Anyone can juggle anywhere; by themselves, with friends, teams, or soccer clubs. Participants will collect donations and pledges leading up to the OSA World Juggle-a-thon, and then juggle as much as they can on April 25. After the event, jugglers will mail in the money they raised, and receive an official OSA World Juggle-a-thon Skillzys® tag and other goodies. The goal is simple – for each juggler to raise at least $30, to send at least three bed nets to protect families from malaria. Working together through soccer, we can help protect entire communities from this deadly disease. Juggle to get better. Juggle to save lives.
Who is putting on the OSA World Juggle-a-thon?
OnlineSoccerAcademy.com is putting on the OSA World Juggle-a-thon. Founded by former pro soccer player Jared Montz they make better soccer players through free online training videos. Players all over the world use it and you can sign up today, for free at http://www.OnlineSoccerAcademy.com.

Update #63: Great Project, Screenings, BluRays
We hope that everyone is well. First off, the Blu Rays are coming soon, I swear! They are in the final stage of production and should be sent to us next week. We will send them immediately upon receipt.
I wanted to fill everyone in on another great underdog soccer project. Please check it out and watch the trailer when you have a second and contribute if possible. It is another great story that needs to be told.
Here is the link: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2028948731/the-soccermen
The Soccermen follows two Brits who take the reigns of a team touted as "the worst soccer team in the world". It seemed like a good idea at the time, but coaching novices Paul and Matt find themselves on a remote Pacific Island with a population whose obesity rate is 90 percent, toad-infested facilities and one of the world's wettest climates. With no resources and the hopes of 16 Islanders resting on their shoulders, the coaches take their team to the mainland in search of the the island's first ever victory.
CHECK IT OUT! Lastly, we are offering the film to any group or organization that wants to screen it to raise awareness about the film, help out the group/club/organization and have a good night where people come together and enjoy themselves. Please email us if you are interested!
The reaction on the film continues to be amazing, we get emails often from players and parents talking about the positive effect it has had on them. For that we are grateful and should all be proud. Rise & Shine!

Update #62: Update
Hope everyone is well and enjoying their holiday (at least in the States). The Blu Rays are very close to being done, just had some artwork hold up. The amount of details that goes into everything is... well... a lot. Wanted to remind everyone that the UK Screenings are happening tomorrow. If everyone can please get the message out to any friends, teammates, or friends of friends in the UK we would greatly appreciate it. It is a bit harder for us to get the word out overseas but we are doing everything we can.
The easiest thing to do is to email a link to jaydemeritstory.com or to just visit http://jaydemeritstory.com/buy-dvd/ and click on share.
We really appreciate it. We want to have the UK aware of the film and everything helps. Thanks as always, Rise & Shine!
Update #61: UK Release of the Film - Help Needed
First off Happy New Year! We hope this update finds everyone well. Thankfully Jay's story is going to be shown on the big screen in the UK. England played a huge part in Jay's story and it is very fitting that it is making its way there. As someone who got to visit during the filming I can say that the sport is like a religion, it is amazing the passion and knowledge that everyone there has. We really want to make sure that we do it right and get the word out. It is a bit more difficult as we don't have the organization support that we did in the U.S.
With that said, I know that many supporters of the film are UK based or have roots there. If everyone can spend just a few minutes contacting those who you know about the film it would really help. Most people either know someone there or knows someone who knows someone. The soccer world is getting smaller and smaller these days and it is really easy to get the word out and have it spread. The feedback on the film continues to be incredible, we have gotten such great responses from players, coaches, parents, even people who don't follow soccer but realize the value of the message. So thanks a lot as we should ALL BE SO PROUD WE GOT THIS FILM OUT. I haven't even stepped back to think about it, but it is truly incredible.
The info for the UK release is available at jaydemeritstory.com It is playing at Odeon Theaters throughout the country on January 17 and January 26. Thanks so much, Rise & Shine!

Trying to get hold of Ranko as we are heading to San Diego in March and I wanted to thank him for putting together a great movie.
I was talking to a bunch of college kids from California who are here in London for a semester and they all knew about Jay's story and wanted to see the film.

Update #60: Signed Poster and DVD contest
Hope all is well and everyone is getting ready for a nice, relaxing Holiday season. This is my favorite time of year from a soccer/football perspective as the games come thick and fast! Just wanted to let you know that we are doing a contest where someone can win a signed poster and a dvd of the film. Could be a good present to give to someone or have for yourself. The response from the film continues to be amazing and we can't thank everyone enough.
Here is the link for the contest, it runs until tomorrow.

Rise and Shine was the result of Jay's friends wanting to get his story out. 6 months before the 2010 World Cup, Ranko and Nick approached Jay with the idea of documenting his journey. Ranko and Jay had played college soccer together in Chicago and Jay obliged. Neither had any formal film experience (Nick is an attorney and Ranko an acupuncturist) but their love for soccer and their determination to have Jay's story told made the decision easy. However, one week before the film was set to begin shooting the director notified them that he was unable to direct to project due to family issues.
The pair had a decision to make - put an end to the project or give it a go. Juggling their day jobs, draining their savings, maxing their credit cards (and borrowing the rest) the two set out on a year-long journey that culminated in a 92-minute film, one they hope will inspire and entertain many with its message of hope and self-determination. With the help of a fresh out of college (and extremely talented) Cinematographer named Zach Salsman (www.zachsalsman.com), the movie was completed. It is amazing what the power of the mind, technology, and a positive attitude can do. It's also amazing the two haven't killed each other in the process.
