We've launched an exciting new project of our own! Introducing the Kickstarter app for iPhone!

Changes for a new season

Update #3 · May 29, 2012 · comment

Hello!

I first off, want to thank you if you have pledged and supported Bread and Glitter. Your support is greatly appreciated. However, we have 5 days left and aren't even half way towards reaching our goal! With this being said, we have reassessed and discovered that Bread and Glitter, being the awkward youth that it is, is in a place of tension and growth. We accepted it here. For life is best lived in an affectionate wrestle amid the contradiction of pain and joy, suffering and pleasure, work and rest and the now and not yet.

We are writing to you today to see if you would be interested in contributing the money you have pledged towards helping us promote the Bread and Glitter blog. In light of the absence of funds, we have prayed and decided that the most appropriate thing to do is to work on updating the website (since at this point of B & G's incarnation B & G functions more appropriately in the blogosphere). We are in need of $250.00  to print 1000 well designed postcards to mail and send out. This will help us promote B & G because what the journal needs right now is awareness.

Please consider contributing to our cause.

As always, thank you for your support.

-Bread and Glitter team

Update #2 · May 16, 2012 · comment

Hi there!

We have just 18 days left to reach our goal of 2000 dollars! There are amazing gifts and incentives for those who are willing to contribute financially. Don't miss out!

ABOUT:

Bread and Glitter is both a web and print-published communal arts and faith journal that showcases a mix of essays, life and cultural reflections as well as reviews and profiles of artists and their work. It is designed to celebrate art, faith, cultural renewal, and community through an affectionate wrestle.

Bread and Glitter annually releases a special print edition of the journal.

This year we are planning on having our third print release in conjunction with the July First Friday in the Crossroads Arts District in Kansas City, MO. The 2012 journal will feature prominent artists and intellectuals from Kansas City, MO,  New York City, NY, Los Angeles, CA, Madison, WI, and Macon, GA.

Bread and Glitter 2012 will feature work by the following artists: Lynn AldrichMakoto FujimuraDylan Mortimer, as well as short stories, poems, and scholarly essays by Christina Carnes, Anya Silver, Julie Hamiliton,Bobbette RoseLinnea Spransy and Rachel Wegner. Local artists and designers Brendan J. O’Shaughnessy and Sunny Stanila have graciously agreed to utilize their talents to design this edition of the  journal.

Last year’s cover designed by Stuart Bury.

Bread and Glitter is a self-sustaining project. We do not make a profit from the journal. The funding received from your generous support to operate this project will help us print an initial number of copies to be given out for a small donation at the event. By printing more copies than we have in the past, we will be able to do the following:

-create and include many others in a larger conversation within the KC arts community and beyond regarding faith, art and culture.

-expand our readership.

-expose many it the incredibly talented artists Bread and Glitter’s features continuously.

We believe a practice of celebration in the arts and culture holds the power to be an articulation of love. Such a love is an integral resource for fostering healthy communities.

Thank you for considering partnering with us!
