B & G is a web and print-published arts & faith journal showcasing a mix of essays, life & cultural reflections, & profiles of artists.
Joining the hearty and nutritious with the lavish and celebratory…
Promoting the integration of the arts and the Christian faith
Bread and Glitter is both a web and print-published communal arts and faith journal that showcases a mix of essays, life and cultural reflections as well as reviews and profiles of artists and their work. It is designed to celebrate art, faith, cultural renewal, and community through an affectionate wrestle.
Bread and Glitter annually releases a special print edition of the journal.
It is with great pleasure that we announce the start of Bread & Glitter's Kickstarter to raise funds for our annual print release to coincide with the July First Friday. There are amazing gifts and incentives for those who are willing to contribute financially.
This year we are planning on having our third print release in conjunction with the July First Friday event in the Crossroads Arts District in Kansas City, MO. The 2012 journal will feature prominent artists and intellectuals from Kansas City, MO, New York City, NY, Los Angeles, CA, Madison, WI, and Macon, GA.
Bread and Glitter 2012 will feature work by the following artists: Lynn Aldrich, Makoto Fujimura, Dylan Mortimer, as well as short stories, poems, and scholarly essays by Christina Carnes, Anya Silver, Julie Hamiliton, Bobbette Rose, Linnea Spransy and Rachel Wegner. Local artists and designers Brendan O’Shaughnessy and Sunny Stanila have graciously agreed to utilize their talents to design this edition of the journal.
Bread and Glitter is a self-sustaining project. We do not make a profit from the journal. The funding received from your generous support to operate this project will help us print an initial number of copies to be given out for free at the event. By printing more copies than we have in the past, we will be able to do the following:
-create and include many others in a larger conversation within the KC arts community and beyond regarding faith, art and culture.
-expand our readership.
-expose many it the incredibly talented artists Bread and Glitter’s features continuously.
We believe a practice of celebration in the arts and culture holds the power to be an articulation of love. Such a love is an integral resource for fostering healthy communities.
