A whimsically illustrated book of poetry even poetry haters can love.

Hello Friends.

Welcome to my Kickstarter page. My names is Hollis N Haskin and I have written a book that "even poetry haters can love". And I need your help.

ABOUT THE BOOK

This book grew out of the poems that littered my morning notebooks and the various sundry verses I wrote now and again over the years I was raising my five children. I have always felt a deep love of life and have felt a need to spread that feeling to others. It is the spirit we feel as children and then bury under the demands of living our lives. What I really want is for readers to experience a connection to that spirit - their inner kid if you will - and maybe learn that good poetry isn't always heavy - it can be fun. And can't we all use a bit more of that in these stressed out times?

THE FRUSTRATION

Since I was in the Fourth Grade I can remember wanting to be a writer. Life can side-track one's dreams, and though I love my five kids more than anything and do not regret a single day with them, I still harbored a deep desire to realize my childhood dream. When my children were older I began to write plays and have had a great deal of satisfaction seeing them published and performed throughout the country. Yet the published book of poetry still remained out of reach for me. Then three years ago I began to look at my verses and the idea for a book was born. I assembled them, came up with a title and theme and had a great time illustrating them. So far so good, and yet trying to publish a "charming" little poetry book by a "fame-less" author through the traditional channels is about as easy as climbing Everest in an iron lung!

THE GOAL

It didn't take long after I'd finished my first good clean copy of the MS to realize that if this book was to ever sit in the hands of the public it so wants to entertain, I'd have to kick it out the door myself. An added perk of self-publishing? The book will look just the way I want it to. Thanks to Mill City Press and $3,900 dollars later, I will have a published, distributed book with its own website. Your generous support will help me meet that goal and enable me to market the book. If I raise the requested amount, What in This World could hit the stands as soon as this coming Fall.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

I am offering different perks for different levels of cash. The goal is 3,900. If I don't meet that goal all donations are void and you are charged nothing. If I do meet my goal - then it's on to the typesetter and rewards all around!

A WORD OF THANKS

I'd like to give my special thanks to film-maker Mark Bellusci who created the above video for this project and to opera singer Erin Windle for her narration of the poems.

Thank you all who lend your support to this project. No matter how small your donation, the fact of it speaks volumes to me.
