A two-minute short film about a spoilt boy who, fighting over a pair of designer shoes with another boy, learns a valuable life lesson.
Urchins is a two-minute short, live-action film that I intend to enter into competitions, specifically Virgin Media Shorts, with others to follow afterwards. The plot is about two children who meet in a shoe shop and fight over a pair of designer-label shoes called "Urchins". The film is a comedy with a lot of heart and a moral lesson that people will hopefully find appealing.
The short is designed for young kids, and hopefully will teach them lessons on compassion and not judging a book by its cover.
My cheesy video above will explain everything (apologies for the audio and my grating voice lol), but I have already made two short films that have done well in festivals, and I am now looking to make a new one.
Since this is a very short film, funding should be minimal, and will mostly go towards locations and equipment rental. I'm not in the habit of asking for funding for things like this, but I thought I would see if the community might be interested in my idea and helping it to be just that little bit better. Of course, everyone that is involved will be credited and get my undying love and appreciation :)
I really believe this will be a worthwhile project, and hope your support will help make this short a good one :)
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
I already have experience in making short films, so I am well aware of the risks that go into it. That being said, it is inevitable that things never run 100% smoothly on a film. There is always the risk of cast and/or crew pulling out, locations falling through, bad weather, faulty equipment. However, I like to think that I am always prepared and able to think quickly on my feet.
The key is always to be well prepared in advance. Whilst you might not have the solution to every problem, being prepared for everything always cuts the risk of being caught off-guard on the day.
I am intending to push the look of this film even more so than my previous two shorts, and use it as a testing ground for a super-secret project that could be on the horizon. I will be using camera techniques I've not used before, but I've scheduled enough shooting time to accommodate my ideas. I already have a great crew with years of experience in the industry to guide me.
I will be shooting the film with children, something I have not done before, but I am hoping that this short will be a good starting point for future shorts that might involve younger actors.
There is always the possibility of not getting the funds, but I think the goal here is obtainable, if people out there believe this project is a worthwhile cause.
