About this project

As part of Quilt Projects, an ongoing investigation of quiltmaking from the standpoint of a contemporary practice, I give an interactive performance called Quilt Stories where I sit inside of a quilted tent, meeting visitors and recording their stories and anecdotes about quilts. I have been to Portland, Boise, Salt Lake City, and the Bay Area with my tent thus far.

I would like to raise money through Kickstarter to take this Quilt Stories project on the road- visiting different communities between Palouse Washington and Minneapolis Minnesota, collecting stories along the way. One prominent stop will be at the International Quilt Studies Center in Lincoln Nebraska, where I will further my research on improvisational quilt-making traditions. I will end up in Minneapolis, at a two-week artist's residency, where I will use the stories to create a project, probably with song & animation, and share my work there. I will also be making a documentary of my trip.
Below are my estimated costs for the project - if I end up exceeding my $3000 goal, I will bring Quilt projects all the way to the East Coast and Canada in the fall!

COSTS:
gas $800
car tune up & oil change $300
food $500
occasional lodging $300
(i am hoping to be hosted most of the time but might need to get a motel)
supplies $300
(supplies for tent, MP3 recorder, mini-DV tapes, bike rack)
studio time & residency support $500
processing fees $300
THANK YOU for your interest, please send me a message if you know of a place I should visit along the way.
