He's been described as 'Marianne Faithfull meets Sade!' His smokey mocha-flavoured vocal style evokes memories of a bygone era, of intimate dimly-lit '40s and '50s jazz clubs and yet has the kind of timeless quality associated with the likes of Nina Simone, his primary personal and musical mentor.
Nefer Davis - 'the poster guy for sexy men over 60!' - wants to demonstrate to all that it is never too late to pursue one’s passion and dream. After a lifetime of working around music, the London-born singer/songwriter decided he would devote his energy and commitment to making a great album of – to quote producer Dave Holland – ‘of real music for real people.’
With a soulful, jazzy mix of covers and original material, Nefer is confident that his music will appeal to discerning listeners who appreciate the sound of artists like Nina, Madeleine Peyroux, Jamie Cullum and Michael Franks. Inspired by the phenomenal worldwide reaction to Susan Boyle, who has shown audiences that age is no barrier to talent, Nefer Davis has been compared to Mose Allison and Dr. John among others.
We plan to do this by reaching out to Nefer’s friends and associates and to our friends at Facebook and we want to use the funds we get through donations for recording a great album in London with renowned producer Dave Holland working with Nefer Davis, starting out with five tracks, three of which have already been laid down and for which Nefer has done initial vocals.

We will use the funds to finish off the first three and complete two more tracks as an EP on the way to completing a full album.

Nefer Davis has long cherished the dream of spending his latter years as a recording artist and performer. Born in London, Nefer (his adopted name taken from the Egyptian word for ‘the beautiful one’ inspired by his deep interest in 18th dynasty Ancient Egypt) has loved music for as long as he can remember, listening to artists like Alma Cogan, Perry Como and Rosemary Clooney as a child before discovering the music of Dionne Warwick, Nina Simone and Aretha Franklin as a teenager.
Nefer worked in record shops, wrote for different fan magazines and spent years working behind the scenes always secretly hoping that his voice might be heard and he would be ‘discovered’. He recorded demos, wrote songs and occasionally performed during a stay in the U.S. in cities like New York and Los Angeles.
Returning to London in 2009, Nefer concluded that it was time to finally fulfill his passion for singing and performing! He noted the reaction to Susan Boyle, the 51-year old British singer who has become a major recording artist throughout the world and realized that he too could be an inspiration for others in fulfilling their dreams regardless of age or circumstance.
Nefer will be recording several original compositions while adding his ‘smoky mocha’ tones to some tunes from the catalogs of Laura Nyro, The Marvelettes and The Beatles for the first CD. His aim is to appeal to the generations that love the music of Sade, Norah Jones, Mose Allison and of course, Nina Simone, his primary musical mentor to whom he pays tribute during live shows.
His music is the kind he'd like to hear in Starbucks, on a long distance flight...and his dreams are to perform at the Hollywood Bowl, The Royal Albert Hall and Carnegie Hall - in no particular order! Go, Nefer, go!
