Books Are Almost All Shipped!

Update #6 · Feb 28, 2013 · 4 comments

Hey History on Two Needles Backers!

After a marathon shipping session last week before I flew out to Stitches West, most of the books have either arrived, or are on their way!

There are still some books yet to ship, mostly folks for whom I had incomplete addresses (and therefore couldn't ship last week) but those books will be out by the end of this week!

The international orders have almost all shipped, there are just a few more out of the US books to ship.

Fulfilling the requested kits is the last step in kickstarter backer fulfillment, and with every step of this process I'm more and more grateful to all of you who helped me realize my vision and get this book published!

I also want to publicly thank Kathleen Pascuzzi, who's been incredibly helpful in keeping the fulfillment process moving.

It's exciting to see so many of you Facebooking, Tweeting or emailing me that your books have arrived - I hope you enjoy them!

Gratefully,

Annie Modesitt

Almost There!

Update #5 · Nov 18, 2012 · 5 comments

Hey Folks!!

Every day we get a bit closer to the actual print and distribution of the "real" books, and the sending of the ebook links!

Who knew there was SO much stuff to wade through at the end?  Okay, I did, but I was trying to ignore that aspect!

On the print side there's the proofing, re-proofing, sending the stuff to the printer, getting MORE proofs back, getting blurbs from kind writers, creating review copies, ISBN and Library of Congress numbers - a whole goya beanery!

On the eBook side, there's uploading and creating each pattern as it's own entity within ravelry and other websites (not SELLING the patterns yet, just making them available so that when the patterns go live we can get them ready to sell in a very short amount of time)

All of this is my way of saying this Thanksgiving you can add to your list of things for which to be grateful, "Soon I'll have my printed/eBook copy of History on Two Needles!"

Thank you so much for your patience and your trust, I really appreciate it!

Best,
Annie Modesitt

Progress Apace!

Update #4 · Aug 26, 2012 · 8 comments

Hey History On Two Needle Backers!

I wanted to send you an update and let you know how well things are coming along!

At this point we're looking at an October / November press date, with shipping in time for the holidays.  Fingers crossed.  Ebooks will be available as soon as we go to press, hard copies of the book will be available soon after.

  • All patterns are currently being checked / edited by an amazingly brilliant tech editor otherwise known as 'wisehilda'.  Yes, I'm very lucky!
  • Photography is 70% finished, with just 6 small projects yet to be photographed (this should be completed Labor Day Weekend, my birthday gift to myself!)
  • I've purchased all of the artwork I'll need for the book (licensing images from the National Portrait Gallery, the Metropolitan Museum and other stock photo sources)  THIS is where the kickstarter funds REALLY helped!
  • An attorney is helping me sort through the public doman / creative commons / paid image maze and I feel very confident that all of the images used in the book are fully legal and the image owners are completely compensated / credited.
  • The layout of the book is looking very nice, I'm officially an InDesign fan!  Thanks, also, to the kickstarter funding I was able to upgrade to a newer version of InDesign, allowing the process to go MUCH faster and also allowing me to work more easily with my publisher.

I truly cannot imagine doing this without your support!

TEASE

Here are a few of the pattern layouts, in a raw form (with no pattern text and with images that are in the process of being edited.)

I realize that my decision to place my models in historic locations may not be the same choice everyone would have made, but I like it quite a bit, and I'm working hard to match the model to the background as seamlessly as possible.  (I'm afraid I would have had to do another kickstarter for $10K to afford the photoshoot I would have liked to have had!)

Once again, THANK YOU ALL!!
Best,

You can see in the images below where I've used a shot from a lovely restaurant in Italy juxtaposed with the image of the model in the 3-tiered lace shawl.  Or where a photo of the interior of Falkland Castle is blended with the image of the model wearing the James I & VI skirt.
