With 10 days left in its Kickstarter Initiative, Kulturpark is delighted to announce its constellation of visionary projects led by 25 Berlin-based teams that will transform an abandoned amusement park in East Berlin into a playground for freedom thinking and creative movement during the last four days of June 2012.
✚ THE FERRIS WHEEL will be covered in recycled CD’s by Spar*k Architecture to create a disco ball that sends glimpses of sunlight across the Spreeriver
✚ THE TRAIN RIDE will feature moving and growing park stories with projections in the tunnels and moss drawings on the lake, curated by Heiko Pfrent of Kreuzberg Pavillion, with musical soundscapes by Enis Rotthoff + Toni Schuetz
✚ THE JUNGLE GYM will become a playground instrument crafted from ropes and park materials by David Button of SpreeStudios, who will also send a BIKE POWERED, LED-LIT, WATER MILL BOAT down the Spreeriver
✚ INFLATABLE DINOSAURS, CAT CALLS, and VILLAGE LIGHTS will be powered by STATIONARY BIKE RIDES created by Protostudios and Open Design City with artist Hannah Dougherty.
✚ IMAGINATION GENERATION WORKSHOPS led by Hither Yon will collect park imaginations across ages to form a virtual publication of amusement dreams, possibilities, and imaginations
✚ PARK WORKSHOPS will explore the park as site of Love (Anje Prust), Sustainable Design (Raum Labor), and Bird Forestry (Elizabeth McTernan)
✚ BRAIN MAPPING by Max Planck Institute’s Neuro Bureau will explore connections between neuroscience, the park, and the brain
✚ AMPHITHEATER DANCERS will perform nature with machinic gestures choreographed by artist and dancer Janna Usmigg
✚ SWAN SONGS composed and performed by 10 Berlin musicians with Lucinda Dayhew will soar from the swan rides
✚ DINNER PARTIES composed from market surplus throughout June curated by The Dinner Exchange will feature local culinary visionaries and engage communities in discussions about the park
✚ BILINGUAL RADIO BROADCAST will broadcast German-English music, stories, discussions, and exchanges from artists, visitors, and luminaries to global online listeners
✚ KEYNOTE LECTURES including Simon Critchley and Kulturpark Think-Tank groups presented by Erasmus Mundus International University preOCCUPY CONFERENCEwill present talks in the park
✚ A CREATIVE CAMP AND VISIONARY ORIENTATION will be led by The Process Institute.
✚ PARK DREAM TOURS will be led by child of Kulturpark and park historian Christopher Falade
✚ A SPREEWALD THINK-TANK will bring together community stakeholders and leaders to map a framework and urban plan to propose possibilities for re-opening the park for Treptow and Berlin.
✚ AN ONLINE ARCHIVE will present stories, memories, photographs, architectural plans, and videos by artist Dan Sieple and Stefan Roloff, a park photographic and healing application by Marcello Pisu & Esra Rotthoff with Lorena Monsalve, and social media applications about the park that preserve its memory and imagine its future.
✚ AN EXHIBITION AT GOETHE-INSTITUT DC will present research findings, maps, and plans of the park in a comparative exhibition exploring transformation and abandonment in Capitol Cities, Berlin and DC.
✚ BIKE TOURS across Treptow Park will explore the history of the Treptow, including the 1896 World Trade Exhibition, Archenhold Observatory, Soviet War Memorial, and Waldenschule.
✚ A DOCUMENTARY FLEET of creatives working in 3D video, mapping, photography, and gaming media, including students from the UDK Kunst im Kontext program, will capture and model the park experience
Kulturpark actions will occur from June 28-July 1, 13:00-21:00pm, with a special evening light performance and dance occupation on June 30 from 21:00 into Sunday morning.
See you when the dawns and dusks align in near time.
