Update #1: 8/28 Update
Dear pledge supporters,
Thank you so much for your support of my project "Yannis".
When I created the pledge page here, I put in the total amount of budget for the documentary through to finishing as dictated by my line item budget, but it appears now that I may need to fund raise in phases, i.e. raise money for the production portion of the project which we're in right now, and then raise post-production later. As it stands now, it's obvious that despite current donor generosity, there's no way the entire $90K budget will be in place by the time I need to travel with John to Greece in September to document his delivery of posthumously awarded medals bestowed upon his men to the embassy in Athens as well as have him guide me to points of interest during his World War II service and it's crucial to capture this important footage.
My work on this project is in unpaid "sweat equity". With the bulk of the costs of the budget associated with about $40,000 worth of stock footage licensing for historical imagery, $15,000 for a professionally produced original music score and another $25,000 in post-production, errors and omissions and legal fees, my immediate focus is on raising $10,000 instead to cover current production expenses related to the trip and legal work presently being done.
On September 10th, if the full budget listed here is not raised, Kickstarter will return your pledge payments.
I have already set up a separate bank account for pledges that have been sent by other donors via check, which right now contains $100.
When this project lapses here on Kickstarter September 10th and your pledges are returned, please contact me via email and I will send you instructions on where to send your pledge by check IF you are still interested in supporting the project.
I've also set up a page on Facebook where I have been posting updates on this project, which I will be updating during the trip to Greece as well. it is located at:

"Yannis" is also a finalist for the Roy Dean "From the Heart" Film Grant, that will award $30,000 in goods and services to the winning proposal entry to be announced in October. We're hoping that we make the final cut because in addition to the donations pledged on Kickstarter that would go towards production if you choose to continue your support with a check, this grant will make our efforts on the back end during post-production on the film much more doable.
Thanks to all of you who have pledged support to help preserve this amazing story of service and courage, John and I appreciate your generosity and faith in our effort more than words can express.
Sincerely,
Jerry Vasilatos
