The Artist & The Olympian is a 5min film about the eye opening connections between a Painter and an Olympic lifter's daily struggles
If you have ever seen the film, 2001 A Space Odyssey, you will understand what The Artist & The Olympian is trying to accomplish. EXCEPT instead of giving the viewer the truth of what it's like to live in space, we're going to show the truth of what it's like to live your life in complete an utter dedication to a craft.
HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO THIS?
The answer is simple, but extremely difficult to pull off: Pure, passionate and intelligent classical filmmaking. As the great acting teacher, Stella Adler, once said, "Talent is in your choices." We know we have the passion and we believe we're making all the right choices for all the right reasons. Now, we just need the essential resources to try and pull it off.
"WHY $15,000, THAT SEEMS LIKE A LOT?"
The $15,000 we need for two days of filming and post production is around 20% or 1/6th the cost of what a $1 million feature film (very low budget independent feature) that has 6 weeks/30 days of filming (A lot of days for a low budget).
The contributions you make are not intended to end here. This film is just a seed that I hope will blossom into the feature film version of "The Artist & The Olympian"
BUDGET BREAKDOWN
The following numbers are based off of the quotes we were given from the following Vendors: The Philadelphia Film Office, Arri CSC, The Lighthouse, Pearl Fine Art Supplies, NFL Films, Deluxe Film Lab(New York), Shooters Post & Transfer, Home Depot, US Airways, and Costco
It's a safe guard that fiscally protects the production in the event of an accident(s) that can happen on set.
We only need one location for the film, but has to be perfect and there are only a few places in Philadelphia that have a large studio space with wooden floors and large windows.
CAMERA EQUIPMENT-
Arri-435: $1300 a day, Total:$2,600
The arri 435 is one of the best non synch sound film cameras in the world and can shoot up to 150 Frames Per Second (FPS). It also costs around half of what it would cost to rent a comparable digital cameras such as The Arri Alexa and The Red.
Lenses: Total:$2,300
They are perhaps the most integral part of telling this story visually.
Gels: $ 100
FILM PROCESSING & DEVELOPMENT, TELECINE TRANSFER, COLOR CORRECTION, DIGITAL INTERFACE TRANSFER: Total:$4,800
This is always the most expensive part of shooting a movie on film, and why digital is preferred over film (Not because of quality, film is still the gold standard capture medium). Luckily, many of our vendors got in the game because they love the art of film, they respect the independent spirit, and have been kind enough to negotiate a very generous price rate that will allow us to use film. It also helps that, Adam, is a extremely efficient shooter, using minimal coverage and takes...it will actually cost us less to shoot on film than it would on digital!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The following Costs will partially be paid out of what little we have of our own pocket, but in case we can talk/haggle/beg any of the above vendor's costs down, but any possible spill over money will be used to pay for the following.
In some ways it's almost more important than being able to pay the crew. You need nourishment to keep your energy up and stay focused.
