Making Art is a peek inside the artist's mind, exploring the motivations they have for their creations and highlighting the results.
We are hoping to expand the series by planning for the next phase of the project that focuses on the work of seven artists from the Toronto region.
Beginnings: It started with a single piece—a profile of my artist mother for a film competition. After getting rave reviews, we were inspired to begin the "Making Art" series, which now includes eight features on local artists and their work. The pieces have been embraced by the local art community, and they were featured at a recent public event celebrating the arts. We are hoping to expand the series by planning for the next phase of the project that focuses on the work of six artists from the Toronto region.
What we do: "Making Art" seeks to peek inside the artist's mind, exploring the motivations they have for their creations and highlighting the results. The themes are dictated by the subjects but focus on the deeper motivators. They ask the "Why?" behind the creative process, and seek to develop an honest narrative of the humanity behind the work. Growing up surrounded by art and as a fine artist myself, I am well suited to ask the right questions, to draw out the unique personality of each artist and portray it for a film audience and to transmit this story to film. The videos are shot with an eye for detail, capturing the nuances of an artist's home or work space, as well as the unique aspects of the featured medium.
The proposed project: We are excited to profile William Lishman, Heather Kocsis, Jane Duncan, David Marshak, Sarah Tacoma, Christine Kim, and Jen Mann for this series. The finished product would be a series of five segments (6-10 minutes each). Each will focus on an individual artist and their work. If possible they will be premiered in a series of local venues, working with local art organizations to promote the films and artists they represent.
The goal: To make this project possible I am asking for $4,500. This amount will assist in various production costs as well as cover needed travel expenses.
