The
Future Wow! tribe is eight people strong and we have been invited
to be a part of the Sacred Space Village [SSV] for Burning Man 2012. FutureWow! team leader
Futurist David Houle will be giving presentations and having daily
interactive conversations about the future of humanity with SSV
villagers.
We
are thrilled and deeply honored to have been welcomed into the Sacred
Spaces Village. When the documentary are completed we will provide villagers with a digital release of the experiences we shared with them. The mayor of the village and the day in
and day out people working with her are delighted to have us do so.
Context and Background
FutureWow! [FW!] is David Houle’s name for a project about the future that stands on Alvin Toffler’s “Future Shock”, Marshall McLuhan’s “The Medium is the Message”, and R. Buckminster Fuller’s “Operating Manual for Spaceship Earth”. These prophetic books, written in the 1960s, clearly forecast the decades that followed. The goal of FutureWow! is to bring to the world a similar vision of humanity 2012-2050.
The FW!/SSV documentary is about the future and the burner’s view of the future. 2012 is clearly a year about the future: the Mayan Prophecy, the quadrennial election, the dawning of the age of Aquarius and of course the next 88% of the new century and 99% of this new millennium.
Much of what Burning Man stands for: leave no trace, living in coordinated peace and harmony, having full freedom of expression, helping others, working through hardships together, spiritual breakthroughs and consciousness expansion, creating for beauty and self-expression collectively and exploring and going beyond boundaries are all part of what we all must do on Spaceship Earth this century if we are to evolve and take the next step.
The Documentary
The creative vision of the documentary is to capture the experience of Burning Man as the lead consciousness and creativity of the future. A key component will be Houle and the team’s interaction with burners about the future. To be a catalyst to get people to think about the future and to have a conversation about it. Since all team members are creatives in practice and education, a particular focus will be on the amazing expressions of human creativity and creative freedom present at Burning Man. To show the creative fertility of humanity as it lives in new ways into the future.
Capturing “aha” moments of the team, the audiences and the shared discussions on video.
So, Future Wow! at SSV in Burning Man 2012: a glimpse of the future right here right now.
As William Gibson famously said; “The future is here, it is just not evenly distributed.”
The vision for this documentary is to capture the joy, the highs, the quiet silences, the resonating vibrating moments when insight and sharing occur. We look to capture a dawn to dusk day. We look to capture the night at the village. We want to have the story arc of people coming together- "Burgin" or new SS villagers and long timers – at the beginning and capture the bonding and cohesiveness that occurs through the time at Burning Man 2012.
All of the money we raise from KickStarter will be used to enhance the equipment and overall quality of the documentary that we would love to share with the Burner Community and the world. What we are asking for via donations is a fraction of the budget for the entire trip to Burning Man 2012.
