An original comedic play in the style of a sketch comedy show following 1 night in a fictional small town bar outside Austin, Texas.
Townsville presents: MacDaddy’s Bar and Grill is an original comedy that follows one night at a bar in the fictional small community of Townsville. Townsville will be playing at ColdTowne Theater on Thursday December 29th and Friday December 30th at 8:00 PM. Purchase tickets at the door or reserve your seats here on Kickstarter.
Show Description & Origins
Tim Honker and Nicole McCracken set out to make a new and original comedy show for Austin, Texas audiences and developed a hybrid of a comedic play and a sketch comedy show. Named after a small fictitious community of their creation, the first installment of this series of shows presents the events of a Saturday night at the local Townsville bar and grill, MacDaddy’s. Townsville shows were written based on the improv format Close Quarters. The show follows the events of several scenes in one setting that take place over the course of the same 30 minutes. The show seamlessly weaves the scenes together connecting the characters and events until all the action converges into a chaotic ending.
The show’s scenes include a televangelist-like food trailer owner with fanatical patrons, a forgotten teenage promise being called into fulfillment, and even a “Star Trek”-esque battle sequence. Along with a series of initially recognizable bar happenings that end up taking unexpected twists and turns, “MacDaddy’s” is your local bar like you’ve never seen it before.
The December 29th and 30th shows will open with The Institution Theater’s own sketch comedy troupe, There’s Waldo. Fresh off their spectacularly dark Christmas special, Human Santapede, There's Waldo is bringing out some of their favorite sketches. This “best of” show is packed with material perfected over the past year of performance from this prolific comedy group. There's Waldo delivers fast paced, high energy shows chock full of memorable, crazy, pathetic, disgusting characters that have been building a loyal fan base who look forward to the antics from the filthy mouthed shopping ladies, Katie, the helpful young Christian who's a bit too eager to help her handsome Pastor, and the always drunk, always stupid Woo girls.
There will also be a special musical comedy preshow provided by “The Fred and Joel Show”.
What the Kickstarter Pays for
In order to pay for venue booking and production costs, Tim and Nicole set up this kickstarter. We are using this kickstarter as ticket pre-sales and for donations. Even if you can’t make it to either of these shows but would still like to support original local comedy, any donations given will go far to help us pay for these number of costs and are greatly appreciated. The $400 expenses would allow us to afford production costs such as theater rental, poster printing, wardrobe, and props. Tickets can also be purchased on the night of the show for $5.
- $150 Theater rental
- $25 Color Poster/Flyer printing
- $40 Front door / concessions worker
- $40 Camera rental for recording show
- $75 A/V equipment for recording 1 video sketch
- $60 Props & Wardrobe
- $10 Programs printing

In addition to these performances, you can see Townsville on February 7th in The Frontara Fringe Festival at Hyde Park Theater.
Nope, that's fine if you can't make it. We'll be posting HD video of the show on Vimeo for free in early January and sending out a link to all donors.
We wanted to keep ticket prices for the audience as low as possible, so as many people could see it as possible! We love performing comedy and aren't trying to even really make any money ourselves off this. It'd be great to break even and play great shows.
Although doubtful, we plan on using it to pay our opening act, and help pay for the production costs of future Townsville shows (such as the Feb 7th show).
