About this project

Long before emails, texts and Twitter, individuals chose to express themselves via pen and paper [or card].  Typically, they placed a stamp on it and had the postal system carry it to the designated person.  Somewhere in your place is a hat box, shoe box or drawer, where these treasured missives are stored. They are remarkable letters, notes and/or cards which when read again, draw emotions from you.  Some letters might show that two old friends traded correspondences filled with good-natured teasing and mock insults.

Letters You Treasure will collect and curate assorted letters on its website and produce an eBook.  Eventually, there could be a series of eBooks, printed books and other media revolving around the letters and their unique stories.  But for this project effort a website would be created and the first eBook published.

All types of letters (except the dear johns) are included.  They will range from ones that uplifted and/or encouraged, comforting during an illness, death or personal trial, strengthening the bond between two individuals, eliciting a laugh or humorous tone, motivating one to take action and beyond.

Each letter is a story in and of itself.  Of course, there are two sides to the story; the writer and then the recipient.  What did the writer hope to accomplish by penning the words?  And what type of impact did the letter or note have?  Letters You Treasure will explore the stories and share them with you.

What is the Legacy and Impact of the Written Word?

Letters You Treasure will chart the lives of individuals and show how letters, notes and cards have enhanced them.  We will do this is many ways, but for this project effortwe are focusing on getting a website site created where we can have individual submit their letters, notes and cards (along with a release form) and start sharing them with the world.  Visitors to the site can find stories and letters which place a smile on their face or joy in their hearts ( or both).

From the material received, we will sort through and find the most remarkable ones to place into the first eBook.  At this moment (subject to changes and enhancements) only a handful of letters will make it into the original eBook.  Others will be filed for future eBook editions.

It is anticipated that the eBook will be published in late February or early March.
