Had a nice long run up until a week ago when the Tape hack stopped working. Hated having to do the hack, and now it seems to not work any more. Tried new tape, lots of variations, etc.
What a great idea executed so poorly.

I filled out the form for the replacement drive, the mark 3 version. When should I expect to receive it?
Creator Kelvin Nishikawa 5 days ago
Read-only issue has rendered my retina minidrive unusable. What now?
Creator Andrew 5 days ago
I never received my order of several MiniDrives, filled out the form for a Mk3, haven't heard anything since, and now it's been more than a month since Nifty has even posted an update - and of course the Mark 3 started off as "ships in May" to now they "expect it to be ready in June". This has been a horrible project with horrible communication. Nifty, you should be ashamed of the way this has been handled.
Creator Peter Laz 6 days ago
I give up. 2 of 3 drives arrived. One retina drive now has read write error and useless. One air drive never received. Have completed the form more than once but hold no hope of ever seeing working versions of these drives. I have had a series of excuses including blaming their logistics contractor but I think it is more likely poor management by the creator. I predict a posting soon advising they have gone broke and can't deliver outstanding drives. Nice concept, poor execution.

Never received...
Creator thu van 6 days ago
Never evinced my nifty drive and I already completed the online request a whole ago
Creator James Smith on May 9
I can't solve my Read Only issue. Are there any workarounds other than the sticky tape trick, which worked for a week or so.
Creator dim3m on May 9
@Mew, the right question would be, "Will my Nifty MiniDrive have the read-only issue?"
Creator Mew on May 9
when my Nifty MiniDrive arrive?
Creator Anthony on May 8
Read-only problem for me. Sigh. Now my Samsung 64GB MicroSD is gathering dust.
Creator Glenn Curtis II on May 7
Still waiting for my Mk3. I never received my initial MIniDrive so I opted to wait for the updated one because I did not wish to encounter the problems that plagued the first gen. However, it is been close to a month since I have heard anything from Piers and Steve. So much for them working on improving their communication (see Update #31). Hey guys! How about a little assurance that you are still on it and not blowing off your loyal backers?
Creator razamataz on May 7
Still waiting hopefully for my minidrives...
Creator Chris on May 6
hmm. i am waiting for the mk3. my fingers are crossed. 3 projects baked. one went perfect. one was a ripoff i guess. and this one still in progress :)
so i will never bake something again. waist of time and money.
Creator Anders Kähkönen on May 5
Unfortunately there is a problem with one of the two drives that I purchased. One works perfectly, but the other one makes the microSD entered read only. It is also impossible to format the drive.
Any ideas?
Creator David W. Malone on May 3
Ejected the device for the first time yesterday and now it's read-only upon reinserting. Not an acceptable 'feature'. Sorry I recommended it to a friend. Emailed developers, but from what I read here, I'm not holding my breath. Caveat emptor!
Creator Aldo Valadez on May 3
It worked for a couple weeks. Now it only reads. Not complaining. Love the product, just would be nice if it worked correctly. Keep up the hard work. Thanks
Creator Caroline Morse on May 2
Still have never received a Mini Drive, working or not, of any iteration, and NO contact from these people at all. Total rip-off, outright theft.
Creator dim3m on May 2
I am not longer using my nifty, what a waste. cause of the read and write issue.
Creator Teresa Hartman on May 1
Looking forward to receiving the Mark 3. Keep on keeping on, Niftydrive crew.
Creator Matthew Zimmer on May 1
I got my replacement minidrive yesterday, and it works (MacBook Air + SanDisk 32GB)!
It fits into my MacBook Air flush against the side, but it appears to be about a milimeter too short (there's a tiny gap above the drive)... I'm not complaining, it works perfectly, but it's not as pretty as the picture.
Note: I live in the US, and the mail from these guys in Manchester is SLOW at best. My original minidrive was one where the metal/silver broke off the main plastic part. I emailed (no response) and filled out the replacement drive form online (no response, but a couple of weeks later an envelope showed up for me to send back my old one in). I crossed my fingers and prayed to a few dieties, and the new one showed up yesterday! I am now the envy of everyone in my one-bedroom apartment.
Creator Nate on April 30
Received a replacement drive and still having the read/write issue again, ah well another month wait I guess
Creator Oh-hyun Kwon on April 28
Finally, I've got the MiniDrive few days ago.
And it works perfect. (Retina + SanDisk 64GB)
Creator Johnny on April 24
I wasted $60 as well. No drive no response. Sorry to say these bad eggs are ruining this platform for other projects. No more backing kickstarter projects ever. Someone needs to file a class action lawsuit.
Creator Caroline Morse on April 24
Still no MiniDrive, no contact with anyone from the company. Filled out the form, have NEVER gotten ANY miniDrive, working, defective or not.
Creator Miso on April 23
@Stuart. I think the speed also depends on the card reader. It it uses USB (like my mid2011 Air), then the maximum speed is 480 megabit/s (60 megabyte/s). If your mac is new and uses PCIe, then it should be able to handle a higher speed. Check "http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3553…;.
Creator Stuart Cheshire on April 20
Anyone have any experience using a 16 GB SanDisk Extreme Pro ($50 on Amamzon) for higher performance with the Nifty MiniDrive? SanDisk claims read speeds up to 95MB/sec, which should be quite a bit faster than the SanDisk Ultra.
Creator Chris on April 18
still no drive or response to my emails. how do I lodge a complaint? kick starter won't respond either. better business Bureau? amazon? advice?
Creator janotterstetter on April 18
Hi, well don't get unfair ... these guys are doing a good job ... I asked for replacement due to the read / write issue and say send an envelope to send the old back. Now I'm waiting for the third batch to arrive in may. Looking forward with good feelings ... :-) ... I belive the team has improved over time ... and so the product will ... :-)
Creator dim3m on April 16
$60 wasted, all because of the read & write issue. The tape is not a fix but a hassle. Wait till the tape comes off and get stuck in the macbooks.
Creator Michael Holz on April 16
Have these guys ever posted anything here in response to the questions, comments etc?
Creator Miso on April 15
Hahaha. I've got a third minidrive for my Air today, even though I placed an order for just one. I feel sorry for those who haven't received even a single drive yet. Nifty, stop sending me minidrives! I've already got one which woks fantastic in my Air! I don't think I can use my Air without the minidrive anymore and would love to stick a 128 GB microSD in the future. Oh, but send me a prepaid return envelope instead to send back two extra minidrives and one 64 GB microSD card.
Creator Richard Chepeus on April 15
@Cosmin Constantinescu thanks for the heads up and actually I had Jettison installed and kept getting a notification that suggested that drive was not properly ejected when the computer went to sleep. In fact I wrote to the programmer to find out how to tell Jettison to ignore the MiniDrive - maybe I should have looked for a different solution. I'll revisit the MiniDrive / Jettison setup to see if it a setup issue that I overlooked.
I don't know if it was the fact that with my Macbook Air I generally just shut the screen and put it away and Jettison was unable to do its think as it would had the computer simply gone to sleep after an extended period of time of inactivity. If that is the case then Jettison won't resolve the issue I have with the MiniDrive. Don't get me wrong, I want it to work, but I don't want to open my computer, expecting it to come alive as it does without the MiniDrive installed only to find a dead battery.
Creator Andrew Snedeker on April 12
I'm still waiting on my return package to send back my Nifty Drive due to the Read/Write issue and to get it replaced with a Mark 3. I filled out the form March 22nd and then again on April 7th. Just wondering what the hold up might be.
Also any chance you are working on a Nifty app that will unmount and remount the drive on sleep to help save the battery life on my computer. I tried Jettison and that only unmounted the drive and didn't remount the drive on wake up. Any other suggestions?
Creator dim3m on April 12
My Nifty MiniDrives works perfect when I plug it into an external card reader, it reads and writes. But direct input to the macbook renders read only. Applying a small tape works but it's a hassle. What are the chances of the tape coming off inside the macbook when it gets warm. And the Nifty gets jammed in there. I'm satisfied with the quality 5 star, design 5 star, but functionality is 1 star. I barely use it now. It's a hassle to add small tape and worrying if it gets stuck. I don't want to send it back. I don't want to waste anymore of my time and money waiting and waiting.
Creator Jay B Payne on April 11
I wanted to say again that I really enjoy my Nifty Drive, it works great and has been super useful. I've had several co-workers ask about where they can get on. I hope you start selling them to the general public soon.
I thing you've done a great job. Thanks for all the hard work.

Creator hypePG on April 8
hey, i still got the read/write issue. cant fix it. wha should i do?
regards

Creator Cosmin Constantinescu on April 7
@Richard Chepeus, It's not the drive, OSX does not sleep with mounted drives. Look up a software called Jettison, that will unmount the drive on sleep, and remount on wake.
Creator john on April 7
Finally got mine and it works well!
Creator Richard Chepeus on April 6
I got one of my Nifty Drives for my Macbook Air, installed it and everything seemed fine. That is until I discovered what to me is a fatal flaw in the design. Generally my Macbook Air is my weekend machine. Before the Nifty Drive I could leave the Air to sleep all week and it would be ready to use come the weekend. Now unfortunately, a few days into the week ans my battery is dead. Did they not test this? The whole purpose of this device and what attracted me to it was the idea of adding additional storage to my Air primarily for media. I would have thought that there have been some sort of sensing logic built in to the drive to sense when the computer goes ro sleep and cuts off power. My $60 is DOWN THE DRAIN.
Creator miro powell on April 5
@kyle leneau
Sorry about your dilemma. Same thing happened to me. I had Apple care so took my Macbook Pro to NYC Apple Store and the Genius removed it for free. As I said in several posts, it is not wise to use the current version of nifty mini drive. It isn't a question of "if" the silver plate will fall off; but rather "when".
