the making of Arfabet!
Hey Beautiful People!
The Arfabet show at Velvet da Vinci is up and running! I had a great time talking to folks at the opening last week, and sold about half of the original pieces already! If you still want to get one for yourself, give the gallery a call to see what's still available! The show will run through November 25 if you are in the San Francisco area and want to see them all. Click here for more information.
I put together a video that chronicles the making of the book and show--there are some nice shots from the opening at the end.
I'm now emBARKing on the big task of making the custom pieces! I know there's a few of you I still am firming up final details with....don't worry--I plan to ship everyone's books and pieces by the end of the month!

Hey Beautiful People!
I can't believe I actually finished this animation before leaving for San Francisco for the Arfabet opening! Here it is in all its glory, with music (and a few choice sound effects) by my amazing cousin Tripper Dungan who did the same for the Elephabet animation! If you backed this Kickstarter campaign, you get your very own copy of this on DVD, otherwise, you can always watch it on the web like the rest of the Beautiful People.

I've compiled information from the vast majority of my backers who chose custom pieces, but there are still a few who haven't gotten in touch with me. I can't guarantee that anyone who hasn't contacted me yet will be part of my mid-November shipment, but you never know.....

But I'm here to tell you a little about my work on the animation. I am not sure if it will be completed by the time of the opening, but one thing is for sure: I need to film it before the show since it stars the pieces that grace the pages of Arfabet that will only be in my hands for the next few weeks! I have worked up a basic idea of how it will work, and it seems that most of the pieces I made for the book are perfect to use. There are, however, a few pieces that I decided to rework in order to animate them.
The Kookierhondje with the kumquat just needs to jump, so I made a stunt double so I could do this on a flat surface.
Similarly, that Zuchon just wouldn't be as fun if it weren't jumping over the Zuccotto, so he's also got a flatter version for the animation.

I decided to remake the Dachshund as well, so that it could show the layers being stacked up to make the Dagwood sandwich. The piece in the book/ Velvet da Vinci show is much larger and glued into one piece. I will eventually glue this one together if I decide to sell it, but I'm also thinking about keeping it in parts to use as a demonstration piece for the future--or possible April Fool's deli platter. You never know.....
I plan to start shooting this week, so I will check back with more behind-the-scenes updates as this project nears completion!
I've also been working on getting the details together for my custom pieces for Kickstarter backers, so if you haven't sent your photos in yet, I'd like to nail down all details in the next week or so. Check your Kickstarter email inbox for messages about how to send me your information if your pledge is for a custom piece.
