After winning a spot to show our S/S2012 collection at Portland Fashion Week as part of the winning prize for winning the Catapult-Emerging Designer Competition at PFW this year (see video of our show here: www.youtube.com/watch... ), we are excited to take the next step with our line, Ms. Wood. And in order to take that step we need funding which has brought us here to Kickstarter.
We are looking forward to evolving our line from our S/S 2011 collection of which we were asked to create a modest 8 looks, but our S/S2012 collection will be made up of 16 looks in total. Our new collection will include looks from casual and sophisticated separates to dramatic evening wear. We will incorporate pops of color in rich fabrics and our silhouettes will stray from our kimono roots (but not too far, don't worry kimono lovers!). We will continue to refine each look with hats, handbags and other accessories, as well as expand our line of wooden accents; more jewelry designs including necklaces and rings, a clutch or two, as well as 3 additional shoe designs.
As a participant in funding this project your money will go towards the following:
*Materials including: fabric, leather, wood (when salvaged wood is not available), various trims.
*Photographer
*Model
*Hair/Makeup
*Look book development
*Marketing
*If we are fortunate enough and go over our goal amount, the additional money will go toward materials and production of our S/S2012 orders.

ALICIA WOOD
Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Alicia Wood had a love for fashion at a young age. She decided that as soon as her feet could hit the pedal, she would learn to design and sew.
In 1994 Alicia graduated from the Apparel Design Program at Seattle Central Community College and moved straight to New York City to study at Parsons-The New School for Design for the summer. Her studies there were followed by an internship with New York designer Amy Chan.
But the West Coast called Alicia back. The change of scenery prompted her to start experimenting with her designs, and soon custom bridal gowns, costumes, handbags, and other items began to come off her worktable.
During this time she also worked as an assistant designer at Tommy Bahama in Seattle.
Alicia’s vision has always been to remain close to her family by working from home. Her husband Ben has nurtured that vision by building her 10’ X 20’ studio on their property. He has also recently joined the Ms.Wood team, collaborating on shoe and jewelry design and production.
BENJAMIN WOOD
Growing up the son of a photographer and a writer, Benjamin Wood, the middle of 3 children, was destined to lead a craftsman’s lifestyle. After immersing himself in various interests from restoring automobiles to crafting fine furniture or even programming and operating CNC machinery, Ben has taken a journey into the fashion world.
Creating jewelry for the Ms. Wood line offers a simple, artistic, and virtually unlimited way to express his design principles. On the other hand, crafting the shoes fulfills a need to challenge a complex, rigid, and unforgiving process. These attributes along with the overall emphasis on design within the fashion industry have really drawn him in.
On any given night after their girls are down, you can find the two of them sketching, sanding, sewing, returning emails or brainstorming. Both have a never-ending flow of ideas waiting for the move from concept to the runway
