About this project
Hi there. Charlie Looker here, from Extra Life. I'm so glad you stopped by. Let me tell you a little about this project...
We're looking to raise money for the recording costs of the "Ripped Heart" EP , the next release by Extra Life. The EP is slated for release by the wonderful UK label LOAF Records around the new year. For various reasons however, a recording budget is not available so we are reaching out to fans, friends and patrons of the arts.
The EP, which will be a follow-up to our 2010 full-length "Made Flesh", will feature four new songs:
1. Strong Brother / Weak Brother
2. Run Cold
3. Ripped Heart
4. (as-yet-untitled ballad / "drive drunk")
Some of these songs have been in peripheral rotation in the Extra Life live touring set and in my local solo acoustic sets. They are songs from the same writing phase as the material on "Made Flesh" and are generally in that same musical vein. Lyrically, the songs deal with many of the same themes as well: desire, death and weight-lifting . These definitely aren't out-takes or B-sides! I am equally, if not more, excited about these songs than those on "Made Flesh"...
The $2000 goal is for recording costs. Our proposed recording process would be a three-part affair involving:
- Colin Marston (of Krallice) at his studio Menegroth the Thousand Caves
- Extra Life's own Caley Monahon-Ward at his Fort Frotteur studio
- my own efforts in my budding home "studio"
I believe this approach would be the most economical and also the most artistically fruitful. While most of the $2000 would go toward hiring the engineers, some portion of it would go toward the purchase of new microphones for myself and Caley. So your donations would not only be funding this release, but would be facilitating the creation of future Extra Life releases as well.
We're offering some pretty cool unusual prizes for your involvement. Thank you so much for your consideration and we hope to enjoy your support in this endeavor! Either way, we look forward to continue bringing you the best music we can until our hearts stop.
