About this project

Oma and Bella  is an intimate portrait of two elderly Jewish women in Berlin with humor, powerful stories, and a deep fondness for good food. As the documentary follows them through their daily lives, a portrait emerges of two Holocaust survivors who stayed in Germany. They answer questions of heritage, memory and identity, ultimately, through the re-creation of the sumptuous foods from their childhood. This film, made by Oma's granddaughter, follows them  as they struggle to retain a part of their past while being very much engaged in the present.

There are some essential (and costly) components that I need to finish this film and bring it out into the world: I need a professional sound mixer and color corrector to make the film sound and feel right; I would like to create a multimedia cookbook website that accompanies the film with exclusive videos and materials generated for online; and lastly, I want people from all over the globe to be able to meet Oma and Bella through my film. To achieve this I will send this film to as many film festivals as possible and this kickstarter campaign will help me pay the numerous festival fees and distribution costs.

The last year has been one of the most exciting and nerve-wracking experiences of my life. It is such relief to say that i am nearly there. Thank you for helping me finish this project!

Vielen Dank!
