Chicago native BRYAN SCARY recorded his 2007 debut solo, before recruiting the rest of THE SHREDDING TEARS and setting up shop in Brooklyn. The five-piece group currently features Graham Norwood on guitar, Mike Acreman on keys, David Ostrem on bass, and Paul Amorese on drums, with Scary on vocals and keys. BSST has been called "psychedelic," "progressive," "quirky," and "strange," but they consider themselves first and foremost a pop band. 2008's FLIGHT OF THE KNIFE fused glam, psych rock, and theatrical 70s pop with science fiction narratives and elaborate children's stories. A conceptual tour-de-force, the album hit #6 on the iTunes Rock Chart after being made Editor's Choice, and amassed a significant cult following. The group continues to win fans with their flamboyant and maniacally-energetic stage shows -- multimedia events which showcase the band's story-telling and flair for the dramatic.
BSST's newest EP, MAD VALENTINES, is a joint release with Elijah Woods' Simian Records and Old Flame Records - it was released on October 27th. The band recorded the album in LA with producer Jonathan Sadoff (a member of the band thenewno2). An additional EP track was then recorded in Brooklyn and produced by Bryce Goggin (Pavement, The Apples In Stereo). The lead-off track on the EP, "Andromeda's Eyes," will be available as a Rock Band downloadable level this year.
The band plans to enter the studio in early 2010 to record their next full-length album, a Western set during the early 20th century and titled DAFFY'S ELIXIR.
We miss you guys in Louisville! (you hung at our house once). We f-ing love the album and are totally evangelical bout you! Best of luck!
Got the CDs in the mail a few weeks back, but just wanted to say the packaging for Daffy's Elixir is beautiful! Amazing production value to it and shows me there still can be a place for physical media.
Oh, and the album is awesome too! :)
You guys should totally do another Daytrotter session. :D
Bring it on, guys! I've been waiting for a long, long time. Now's the time to release the hounds! :-) Can't wait! Thanks for the update!
We can't wait,we know it will be just awesome! 15 tracks even better, this is very exciting! Kristin Collet
Hey, what about that 'if I've moved' question? I no longer live where I used to live, too...
Is there anyway to fund this project even though the target was already hit? I'm late to the game but loving the band.
Yay Bryan, that's great news! Thanks for the update
Vaporware, and now I'm getting spammed by you from some shopping site. Outstanding. Is there some way to revoke my pledge? You're $1,500 over and don't need the money you received from this particular annoyed and possibly former fan.
So I have moved since I backed this project. How do I update my shipping address for everything?
is there anyway to still back this? I would like to get updates and have the other perks. I'm assuming the last update said its taking longer than they want it to?
I'm more than happy to wait. Take your time.
Bryan: Whenever it comes out, we know it will be a hit!!!
Hey Scary guys! how is it going with the album?
Any updates? Getting excited!
Hey... I moved since this project reached its backing. Any way to change my address in your questionnaire?

Dream BIG, guys!
We must ensure that this project happens!
We must!
Will definitely be funding this effort. Having trouble promoting it. Can someone check the bit.ly URL in the widget (throws an error)?
Happy Birthday Cheekon!
I definitely hope you guys raise the money. "Flight Of The Knife" is my favorite album to come out in a very, very long time and the new albums sounds like it will be fantastic. Good luck!
I am rooting for y'all so hard. We'll get you where you need to go.
I love the idea for this record.
I've got a concept record that I'm trying to fund posted here on kickstarter as well.
We should play together some time! It'll be an evening of narrative music.
In case you're interested or curious, my band is Terrible Spaceship.
We're of course on myspace and facebook, but also here on Kickstarter as well.
Best of luck with your endeavor!
Agreeing with Shannon, come to chicago!
There is love without reservation here.
You have it and so do we.
So thank you.
I've been telling every single friend i have about this effort, linked to it on my site, and gave you some of my hard earned cash b/c you guys deserve it for giving me good music. looking forward to the new album.
Come to St. Louis!!! Play a set on KDHX!!!
Any clues about what the T-Shirt will look like? A Google Images search for "Bryan Scary" "Shredding Tears" "T-Shirt" comes up with quite a number of odd things (e.g. a hot dog dreaming of sauerkraut, a pile of naked people on a city sidewalk, Rob Halford, etc.), none of which appear to be a BSST T-Shirt... I think?
New song sounds completely fab! Can't wait to hear the new album and expect a visit to the Midwest (Chicago?).
