About this project

DAFFY’S ELIXIR: the new record by Brooklyn based band Bryan Scary & The Shredding Tears.

Howdy! Well, it’s been too long since the last Bryan Scary full-length, hasn’t it? That was called FLIGHT OF THE KNIFE, and it was the sum of our lives for two years.

But we have a new album written, and we are certain it’s our best yet. DAFFY’S ELIXIR is a Western set during the Industrial Revolution, with an assorted cast of bandits, con men, hucksters, phonies, and all-around bad fellas. There’s an evil landlord, a cross-dressing disciple of Billy The Kid, and the Red Baron of Arizona. There are cow-gal robots, spurned lovers, mad miners, rotten newspapermen, and lots and lots of Diamonds.

Bryan has completed 16 demos, and the band has already composed and transcribed nearly the entire album. We included a sample from Bryan’s demos on this page. Just click on the UPDATES tab at the top of the page.

We’ll be working with producer Bryce Goggin (The Apples in Stereo, Pavement, Spacehog). Bryce’s studio is located next door to Bryan’s loft apartment, and the band’s rehearsal space/studio. Bryce produced a track from our recently released EP, which you can hear at the update page as well (that track is called “THE RED UMBRELLA”).

Multi-instrumentalist Giulio Carmassi will be onboard as a sixth member of the group, adding horns, strings, vibes, and Spaghetti Westernisms. You can check out some of Giulio's insane one-man-band videos at: http://www.youtube.com/user/giuliocarmassi and learn more about him at: http://www.giuliocarmassi.com

Making this record will not be cheap - and will ultimately cost way more than our goal. We obviously want it to sound better than anything we've yet released.

So think of it this way: you are really just ordering a super-advance copy of our new record, while simultaneously giving life to that record.

Thank you so much for you support.

LOVE BSST: BRYAN SCARY, GRAHAM NORWOOD, MIKE ACREMAN, DAVID OSTREM, PAUL AMORESE

Chicago native BRYAN SCARY recorded his 2007 debut solo, before recruiting the rest of THE SHREDDING TEARS and setting up shop in Brooklyn. The five-piece group currently features Graham Norwood on guitar, Mike Acreman on keys, David Ostrem on bass, and Paul Amorese on drums, with Scary on vocals and keys. BSST has been called "psychedelic," "progressive," "quirky," and "strange," but they consider themselves first and foremost a pop band. 2008's FLIGHT OF THE KNIFE fused glam, psych rock, and theatrical 70s pop with science fiction narratives and elaborate children's stories. A conceptual tour-de-force, the album hit #6 on the iTunes Rock Chart after being made Editor's Choice, and amassed a significant cult following. The group continues to win fans with their flamboyant and maniacally-energetic stage shows -- multimedia events which showcase the band's story-telling and flair for the dramatic.

BSST's newest EP, MAD VALENTINES, is a joint release with Elijah Woods' Simian Records and Old Flame Records - it was released on October 27th. The band recorded the album in LA with producer Jonathan Sadoff (a member of the band thenewno2). An additional EP track was then recorded in Brooklyn and produced by Bryce Goggin (Pavement, The Apples In Stereo). The lead-off track on the EP, "Andromeda's Eyes," will be available as a Rock Band downloadable level this year.

The band plans to enter the studio in early 2010 to record their next full-length album, a Western set during the early 20th century and titled DAFFY'S ELIXIR.
