About this project

The Way Place can be experienced as a three dimensional painting, providing shelter, meditative space and a meeting place on the Playa at Burning Man. Come inside and enjoy the colors illuminated by the sun during the day. Come back after dark to see the entire structure lit from within, radiating like a beacon of welcome. A Give/Take Altar inside the Way Place will offer items for people in need and a space for others to give. At random times members of the Unintelligent Design Society will appear to serve cool beverages or brew hot tea for the late night wanderers. A rest stop, a space for meditation, conversation, relaxation and sharing.A place on the Playa out bound from 9:00 between the Man and the Temple where weary travelers can take shelter, seek refreshments and meet other Metropolis dwellers randomly passing through. The Way Place is a fourteen by fourteen by ten foot high pyramid covered with 14 hand painted canvas panels.

We are a group of artists from Northern California that travel to Burning Man each year. The Way Place is our 2010 Playa Art project. The frame is made of PVC piping with 4 canvas panels on each side of the structure. The interior canvas panels will be painted from the top in hot colors...gold, orange, red, fuscia and melt down to cooler colors of blue, purple at the bottom. The exterior panels are white with black symbols that tell the story of welcome and community. The funding amount of $795 will help us to meet our total funding goal of $1,600.00.
