The first film from Mac Alsfeld and Andrew Megison with the lovely Grayson Ward, Sam Horton, and Lauren Claret. You Can't Control Art.
The Synopsis
We paid for the little "c" with a circle around it, so don't think about stealing it.
Many of Clark's problems are typical for a young man in his mid 20's. He is struggling to turn his passion for writing into a career, in the transition from the college lifestyle, while trying to balance his own slighted ideas of love and marriage. In most cases, college cannot prepare you for life's unexpected cruelties. In the wake of his father's death, Clark's mother, Helen, quickly remarries a 24-year-old inventor and professional poker player, named Dan. Clark's new "father" has simple ambitions of his own: to make a good home and to be the fatherly figure that he assumes Clark needs. With Dan's flagship invention being the "Okey Dookey," a plastic piece of dog feces that holds a secret key compartment, Clark immediately discredits the marriage. Convinced that Dan will lead to the destruction of his family, Clark embarks on a campaign to discredit Dan and to help his mother realize the grave mistake she made when she married this man. Dan, however, does not go down without a fight.
Pressured by his "parents" to find a job, Clark sets out on a gauntlet of misleading and dangerous interviews, one including a prison shower sanitation position. Clark ends up at a local, used bookstore run by an antiqued lady, named Peaches. The main reason for employment is the opportunity to work with Emily, a beautiful and quick-witted girl who helps Clark to see that some of his hang-ups about his parents are a result of his own shortcomings. With Emily's inspiration, Clark must tread against the waters of his own pessimistic views on love and marriage in order to reconcile his relationship with his mother and procure the future wellbeing of his family.
The Biz
This is important and should be read many, many, many times.
It's easy to talk about making a movie, but the truth is: anybody can talk. The physical production of a film is much more layered and difficult. As it stands, we think we can film "Father-Like Son" from individual investments, but a major part of our budget still lies in post-production. This means editing, color correction, scoring the film, attaining the rights to widely-known songs, paying our lawyer, and festival fees. Our goal is to submit "Father-Like Son" to a considerable amount of festivals, and those $50-$75 entry fees add up quickly. That's where you come in. This kickstarter will help to make certain that our film sees the light of day.
So, we need your help in contributing to our budget so we can make an unforgettably funny film with the hope to make a statement at this upcoming film festival season. We thank you for taking the time to read this and visiting our page, and we hope that we can make you a part of this story.
Thank You!
