Capturing the Door County lifestyle with engaging multimedia. People like you discovering, loving, creating and living the Cherry Life™

Door County Social—an up and coming digital lifestyle magazine—plans to start it off right with a summer blockbuster series of three issues. In our own creative way, we will help people all over the planet to discover and enjoy the special ethos of the Midwestern Riviera known as Door County, Wisconsin, U.S.A. Our goal is to help people show off their 'happy place' and "Live the Cherry Life!" no matter where they are. We plan to launch a free magazine that will appeal to those who are interested in vacationing and living in Door County.

Our Door County Facebook page grew to have more than 14,000 fans over a 2-year period. Because the people who love Door County are craving more information about this special place, we recognized the need for more robust content, and we are creating an electronic magazine for the ever-expanding digital world. Door County Social will begin publication with three free interactive multimedia magazines—a summer blockbuster series of sorts.

Anyone who is interested will be able to interact with Door County through Door County Social; it will be the next best thing to being there in person. We are collecting interesting and engaging photos, videos, and articles that appeal to a variety of tastes. With the beautiful scenery that Door County offers, we just know that our photographs will create some serious pixel lust!

Door County Social’s intention is for it to be designed to be easily enjoyed from a computer or wirelessly from an iPad or other mobile device. The platform that we are designing will enable those whom we have partnered with—contributing writers, photographers, designers, and videographers—to share their content on this unique platform. We also have some unique crowd-sourcing projects planned for this summer.

Door County Social founder and long-time Door County local Perry Andropolis has spent many years talking to thousands of visitors to the area while running his diner and spending time at his parents’ resort, and he has realized that many people enjoy Door County as a “social utility” of sorts. He has also seen that the area has multigenerational appeal.

Whether visiting for a cozy weekend, watching a sunrise at Cave Point, attending an intimate wedding, enjoying the botany and the birds, spending time with your kids at the beach, or enjoying your retirement, there are countless reasons to like the Door, and our efforts will reflect that. Our publication will encompass the whole amazing Door County lifestyle and include topics such as the following:

• Vacationing in Door County
• Living in Door County
• Kids’ interests
• Outdoor life
• The local music and arts scene
• Places and people of interest
• Local proprietorship & business features
• Sustainability issues in the area (to start with, our digital publication will be paperless!)

Door County Social will also make available unique Door County gear to support our brand and to raise awareness for our efforts. A version of these items with a creative notation—along with our logo—will be available to those who help us get funded. Any funding that we raise over our goal will go toward the further development of the magazine and the applications within to raise awareness of the incredible artisans’ found here in Door County.
This creative community of Door County needs to be enjoyed by a much larger audience; Door County Social’s custom magazine and its unique technology will allow that audience to discover and partake in the many talents of the people of this area. The magazine and what it allows is ‘uncubed’ and incredible.

As the driving force behind Door County Social, Perry Andropolis knows how fortunate he was to be born and raised on a little family resort in Door County. As an adult, he is excited to share this special corner of the world with people all over the world. To help them discover and enjoy (even from afar) this special and enchanted place called Door County, and he needs your help to do just that. It is our hope to get “kickstarted” right so that our organization becomes self-supporting and able to continue our digital publishing and e-commerce efforts.

How we will do it - With grit, determination, and creativity. We have identified a unique opportunity, we have assembled the right team, and our execution is well underway. Our founder is a well-known entrepreneur in Door County who ran one of the area’s most popular and award-winning restaurants for more than 18 years. With his love of Door County and his business connections and acumen, he is now is ready to take on a new industry. He and his team are determined to build something innovative that truly reflects all that Door County has to offer.

How the funds will be used - Our Kickstarter funds will be used to take this idea from its current beta state and turn it into our polished final effort. The money that we earn here will cover our development costs as we create, publish, and distribute our first three issues. This initial push will increase our audience and draw in sponsors and partners for the long-term viability of this venture.

We will be able to pay our technology providers for programming and application development and to compensate our photographers, writers, graphic designers, and other key team members. In addition, we plan to make it as affordable as possible for creative individuals to get involved with us, and this requires some resources up front. The funds will also be used to develop Door County Social’s blog and to pay for the hosting of all of the corresponding Web sites needed for this project.

How far along is your project - We have a pre-summer issue that is almost ready to be shown to contributors and other potential partners, and we have numerous contributors lined up. We have identified and have agreements with many individuals and businesses that will help to make Door County Social possible and enduring, and we have made provisions to distribute the magazine both nationally and internationally.

We will be able to start with our previously mentioned Door County Facebook fan page, which serves as a starting point to connect with more than 14,000 local, regional, national, and international fans of the area. We know that this is just the beginning. Our fanbase is connected to 3.2 million friends and family. Social sharing is just a click away.
