A musical twist on Hansel and Gretel where Gretel starts to see the witch as a mother figure.

The story of Hansel and Gretel as it's never been told before. Gretel starts to see the witch as a surrogate mother during her time in the candy house, and even considers letting Hansel die to preserve her new life.

We'll shoot near the end of October (the 20th-23rd) and finish with post by early December. We plan to shoot on the RED or an equivalent digital camera. The film is a musical, with music by Berklee student Parker Davis.

Concept art for Gretel, as seen in the video above, was produced by Ben Doane, a student at MassArt, and the eventual costumes and sets will be based upon his design. The main set will be the Candy House, which will be build on a sound stage. Most of the money will go towards materials for that set.

FAQ

  • No. The pictures in the video are concept sketches by Ben Doane. The final film will be live action, but it will attempt to maintain the same aesthetic.
