About this project
My name is David Culbertson,a mixed media artist living in Santa Fe,N.M. One of my dreams was to have an exhibit in Santa Fe and now it's here! I create mixed media mask molds and petroglyphs on canvas or panel. This show will be mostly masques and a few abstract petroglyphs. I include alot of texture and three dimensional aspects in my artworks.
The gallery I will be showing at is Arte Bella,235 Don Gaspar,# 5 , Santa Fe, N.M. .They love my work and believe in my art, which is awesome! It actually starts on my birthday (Nov. 3rd) and runs through Nov. 18th- with the reception from 5 pm to 8 pm on 11/11/11 (cool huh?!) I couldn't ask for a better birthday gift!
If you are in northern New Mexico or close to Santa Fe,I'd love to see you at the reception!!
This is how your donation will help: 40% to supplies(masks, canvas, modeling paste, metallic pigment, gloss medium) 30% to the cost of paperwork of the show (postcards, new business cards) and 30% to studio fees.
If you can help me make this a successful show,YOU will get some pretty awesome artwork even at the lower levels of donation!!!
Thanks for checking out my 1st project here! It can only succeed if other people know about it, so please tell whoever you know or share this page with them!!!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU!!!!
A HUGE THANK YOU to my wife and son for helping me with the video!

I was born in 1969 in Eureka, Kansas. Completely self-taught, I've has been painting since 1998.I have always loved the artwork and the space of the Southwest and moved to Santa Fe, N.M. in May 2010 from Salina,Ks to further my interests in the culture and the art scene.
From idea to tangible form, I love to create original artwork that engages the viewer. I work in acrylic on canvas and panel using various tools to create my paintings: blow dryers, plastic wrap, fiber netting, paper towels, palette knives, toothpicks, pvc pipe, gloss medium, metallic pigment flakes, and modeling paste.
Ideas or themes come out in the process of developing the artwork. Rarely do I have the complete piece in my mind’s eye. My current works are three dimensional masks that are based on a standard plastic face mold that I then distort over a flame or cut with a blade to get the desired design.
I am always interested in the viewer’s reactions to my works, wondering what story they would tell. In the end it is all about connections, the touching of another through visual means and hopefully creating in them a feeling or resonance. That is what I want my artwork to do, to make ripples in the worlds of others and add to their lives and views in small artistic ways.
My works are in private collections around the world.
