About this project

I’m passionate about helping others wake up to your personal power, say yes to what it is you really want, see more possibility everywhere you look, and to come more into alignment with your passion and purpose. I’ve made a career of doing just that.

Now I want to expand the reach of these ideas to a worldwide audience by offering Alligator Bites, a series of 20-minute on-line workshops, each a do-able 20 minutes long, all for $20. But to keep the per-person costs that low, I have to be guaranteed of enough interested people. That’s why I’m using Kickstarter to launch Alligator Bites. When I get enough backers, it’s full steam ahead! For now, I’ve created a sample workshop—give it a try!

Through the final password-protected Alligator Bites website, every day I’ll provide videotaped demonstrations, thought-provoking essays, original music, and links to other inspirational and informative media. And in case you have more than 20 minutes to spend, or you want to delve deeper into a particular topic, I’ll offer ideas for further exploration (like books, movies, websites, and other resources to explore).

Each workshop will provide easy-to-adopt practices you’ll try right where you are…and take with you into the rest of your life. The exercises will be body-centered, and based on the expressive arts like moving, storytelling, vocalizing and writing.

Some days you’ll drop down to that centered place inside where the chatter turns off, the static clears, and you can actually hear your inner voice. Some days you’ll rev your creative engine—and drive to a new place in your mind. Some days you’ll start out silly and playful, move into soulful and profound, and end up settled exactly where you need to be. I promise, every day will be engaging and energizing—it will be like drinking a double-espresso for your body, mind, and spirit.

And through a user forum, you’ll be connected to people all over the world who are going through the same workshops. Write about your experience, read other people’s accounts, ask me a question, maybe upload a video or share a link, whatever strengthens and deepens your experience.

All you’ll need is a space at least 6 by 8 feet in size to move in, enough privacy to feel comfortable doing the exercises, a tablet or journal to write in, and a willingness to play, experiment and go wherever the assignments take you.

So, what will you, as a backer, receive?

At the $20 pledge level, you will get the 20 on-line workshops, each a manageable 20 minutes long. Once the Alligator Bites site goes live, I’ll roll out one workshop each day for 20 days. You’ll have access via a username and password for six months. You can repeat your favorite workshops, or complete the whole series multiple times.

If you really love this idea and want to support it at a higher level, check out the other pledging options to the right. Or if you love this idea for OTHER people, please support it so that I can spread these ideas all over the world.

Please pledge today and send this to anyone else you know who is hungry for more passion and purpose in their lives. The Facebook and Twitter links are super-easy to use to help spread the word.

Rhonda Morton

Straightpin Corning, NY

Rhonda Morton is a poet, performance artist, dancer and singer with a particular interest in improvisation in all those roles. Equally at home working as a soloist, as an ensemble member, or as a producer/performer, Rhonda uses the transformational power of creativity-in-the-moment, often integrating the audience and/or the site into performances.

In 2006, Rhonda formed Alligator Mouth Improv, a four-person ensemble that draws on theatre, movement, vocals, music and storytelling, all created in the moment, often from audience input and interaction. They perform in traditional theatres, but are just as likely to be found in business settings, community-building events, or non-arts venues like post offices, grocery stores, and the sidewalk during a busy lunch hour.

Rhonda is the author of two books of poetry—Woman Seeking Water (FootHills Publishing, 1997) and Breathing In, Breathing Out (FootHills Publishing, 2001)—as well as a book of short-short stories, She Opens the Suitcase (FootHills Publishing, 2009). She is a poet of the stage as well as the page, and has been the featured reader at venues throughout the Northeast since her first performance on the Centerway Bridge in Corning, NY, in 1992.

Rhonda is also a skilled teaching artist and has worked with groups of every type—from pre-schoolers to trust bankers—to open up the potential and harness the creativity in individuals and groups. These sessions use improvisation and the expressive arts coupled with examples from participants’ lives to increase trust, improve communications and ramp up performance.

In addition, she is certified as a leader of InterPlay, an improvisation-based approach to personal and organizational effectiveness practiced around the world, and she conducts creative writing workshops for adults and teens. In 1997, she founded GirlSmarts®, a series of workshops and retreats that use the arts to help teenage girls understand who they are and what they want out of their lives. And she and her colleagues in Alligator Mouth Improv work in schools and colleges to visit classes, offer extra-curricular workshops, and/or co-perform with students in productions.

In 2005, Rhonda was awarded the Arts Partnership Award from The ARTS of the Southern Finger Lakes for "tirelessly supporting others in their artistic endeavors, for encouraging young poets and musicians, and mentoring young women with her passion for and commitment to the arts."

Rhonda graduated summa cum laude from Muskingum College in 1980 where she earned a double major in English and philosophy. She has studied extensively in the fields of poetry, performing arts, and improvisation for the past 15 years. This has included private lessons, group workshops, self-study, and regular practices with other performers.
