2 years ago I wrote a dating sim game and a simple Story Scripting engine to go with it. I put 6 months of work into this.
About this Project.
I dig little games and decided that I'd attempt to program my own.
What I've done is make a choose your own path story driven game that runs in the browser. Basic premise is that the player is following the events of the main character and alters where things go by making choices at key moments.
What I am doing with this project.
The ultimate goal is to get the artwork done, so that the game is truly completed.
What this project already has thus far.
The game has a script, music (thanks to Creative Commons music and a lot of searching for suitable tracks on my part), save states and multiple paths.
What it doesn’t have is art.
I have an artist lined up, but need funding to pay him for time and materials. You can see artist’s work on his Deviant Art page.
The game is fully playable and can be played right now by clicking here. It requires the Google Chrome browser (mostly due to bugs with the tool used to develop it).
CAUTION: The game loads in other browsers, but the backgrounds and music aren’t correct.
What will you get for supporting the project?
There’s the game itself, plus the art. If you’re adventurous, you can use the game to write your own dating sims. There is an XML file spec for writing the game script and it’s not difficult to write for. Code will be released under the GPL, art under a Creative Common’s license.
About supporting this Kickstart?
In purely quantitative terms, it’s a great deal. There are 50 or so art assets needed for the game. Commissioning this work would cost about $50 per asset, or $2500, but the artist is an old friend and will do it for a good price.
We’re shooting for $550.00 this time, to cover the artists time & materials plus the 5% cut from Kickstart.
That said, the artist will do sketches for the bigger contributors.

History of this project as it stands now?
2 years ago I wrote a dating sim game and a simple Story Scripting engine to go with it. I put 6 months of work into this (I was learning as I went along, and working a full time job). The game is done, except for art….want to see the art done, and to play my game when it's finished.
If the Kickstart is successful the game art will be done by October. Sketches for contributors will start following after that. There could be as many as 20. They’ll be done in the order Contributions are received, so it could take until January 2013 for the last of them to be done (again, day jobs
).
Thanks to all for helping make my dream a reality!
